When buying a used X, what should you look for?
When buying a used X, what should you look for?
I finally found a deal i was comfortable with, and picked up a used X (RR GSR w/SSS & Aero & the interior freeze-your-hands add ons) with 17k on the clock (it was briefly a commuter car).
Here's what I checked:
its got the aero kit, and it seems that someone tried to rivet the kit on in the front and back wheel wells (with little success, the driver side is slightly pulling off in the front and the passenger side has a small gap) and it has the red "patch" in the back of the car near the rear wheel wheels for paint protection I'm guessing.
I checked the hood latch for functionality (it does) the FAST key system seems to work fine ( I can walk up and open the door with it in my pocket and start the car with out the key in, though i find its kind of hard to grip the plastic protrusion/key guard on the ignition to start it)
interior is perfect, seats are not coming "un done" at the fake carbonfiber inserts.
shifting is not notchy at all, though I'm driving it in snow on the stock tires ( something I don't recommend unless your an experienced snow driver!) so perhaps I need more "grip" to work that out.
I sniffed the dip stick, no "gas smell" no visible oil in the engine bay (though I'm sure the dealer ship that I picked it up from would have cleaned that up so I'll revisit the engine bay in a week and see if there's any fluids that shouldn't be there)
trunk opens fine, though not on its own (is it suppose to?)
I cant think of anything else to check.
Things I did notice:
it seems a little "slow to start" cranking 3-5 times before catching, reminding me of a vehicle with a battery that has a low charge; though it's never not started when i tried (all 4 times now. haha).
The power steering is a bit "jerky" at first start up, this is in about 10*F weather, and I dont notice it after driving a little bit.
The clutch engagement point is almost at the top of the clutch pedal throw, this is more of my own personal preference I suppose, I actually liked it a lot set up like this in my cobra, but I've never seen a stock car with an engagement point that high.
so far I'm ecstatic and don't think I'll be missing my Cobra very much at all, is there anything else I should check for?

looks like you checked everything that people are complaining about here:

Just keep driving it and you'll know within a few days if there is anything not just right.

yeah, i used that thread to base my checks. I also wanted to create a thread with a more relevant title, easier to search etc for others
.
I don't really want to drive the car on stock rubber, while its fun (with the AYC off. haha) its not as safe as my truck with 4x4 and studs all around.
There's probably not a lot of used evo's out there for sale, but I'm sure as we dip deeper into the recession this question will be asked more and more.
