The thing about Honda's is that you have to rev the engines close to redline to get any useful power. The K and older B series engines can handle it no problem but they consume oil if run at redline all the time.
It is not designed to be at redline all the time. And it is certainly not designed to be held at redline. It is like the 2 step, you are only supposed to have it there for a second to build boost, if you sit there all day it will undoubtably cause some issues.

Drive it like it was meant to be driven. Don't buy a sports car and ***** foot it because you are afraid of problems. If properly maintained, these cars take quite a flogging.

Are you even making power up there? Isn't most of the fun in the mid range? Have fun with your car. Maintenance is key though. The only thing I imagine you'll hurt is your wallet ie. gas, oil etc. Things will always break then you fix it.

If you want to be safe, bounce it off the revlimiter a few times to make sure it it time to shift. Also, you might want to never shift out of 1st. Just change your oil every 3k miles you will be good to go.

Who holds engines at redline, we're talking about shifting at redline? There are way too many granny drivers here. The 4b11 engine wasn't designed to be babied. I run my 15 year old 3SGTE engine to redline all the time and it's never caused an issue. Same with my DSM's with 1st and 2nd gen 4G63's. These engines are stronger than you think. However bouncing off the rev limiter continuously isn't a good idea as you can get into some less than desirable lean conditions due to abrupt fuel cut.

The R6 can go over 16k rpm many times without issues, so have at it! /sarcasm

Btw, even if peak power is not at red-line, would you be in a better area of the power band in the next gear if you shifted higher? Win some, lose some on either side of the argument?

Edit: sarcasm added as to prevent the 6 replies saying something like "that's a motorcycle dude!"

There is a reason that some racing drivers never break down and some do all the time. One difference is you learn to not stress the machine unless you need to. You still drive fast but at the same time conserve the car. Alain Prost won 4 world championshipsthis way. If it is good for racing drivers who need to go as fast as possible in cars that are DEFINATELY made to rev high and be driven hard and only need to last 200miles, why should it be different for a road car most expect to last 100,000? First thing you start doing when you have a big lead is reduce the revs.

The high RPMS fatique the rods, wear the bearings at accelerated rates, and degrade the oil among other things. Every once in a while, fine. Doing a track event? Sure....if needed to in top gear down the straights, in a draft for a pass, or if you need to stretch a gear mid corner. Doing it just going to work in the morning seems silly.

Yes, you should redline it at least once a day to keep things nice a happy inside the motor.

Redline daily? No need for it imo. It's not as much fun up there anyways.

I guess once can argue that is good and healthy for a motor to have a good pull once in a while to clear up the carbon deposits that are built up during lower engine speed operations, along with the fact the EVO X runs pig rich, those deposits are more likely to build up. I think with regular maintenance running the car into upper rpm range is safe in moderation and up to a point.

I have a few individuals that run their 6G72 motors off the rev limiter at every autoX event. One with over 150k miles on it, no issues.

Motors are more sturdy than you think and can take stress, however at some point the motor is only as strong as its weakest link, therefore if you want to keep your EVO for years to come, enjoy the car, but do not beat it to a inch of it's life.

However, with any performance car, you got to pay to play.
