Oxygenated gas - aka winter blend.

Good question, I've noticed the same thing with my 8. Denser air requires more fuel, maybe?

The air is also more dense and requires more fuels.

your car makes more power in the cold thus more fuel is being burned. Plus winter gas blows and you might be letting your car warm up which can eat gas.

winter blend has more volatility to ignite in the cold weather, but less btu content and therefore less mpg.

I'm sure the other things like parasitics from thick as syrup gear oil don't help either.

Engine oil is one suspect.
I guess the huge thermal losses from engine to the surrouding has something to do too.
Thermodynamics.

Does anyone notice that the cars run rougher on winter gas or is it me?

By the way as for gas mileage, if you run the defroster, I believe it might kick on the AC compressor as well, which in turn eats gas.

I've noticed around 1 - 2 mpg less in the winter. Is that similar to what you guys are getting?

Yep about 2 MPG less in the winter. Pretty common.
