Everything on the Evo is functional, remove parts at your own risk

Yeah, I would have figured with all of the built in air channels it would have been obvious that the undertray is functional, but apparently not...

not realy quite sure what the lift coefficient of the evo was, but on the Z it was near Zero,

that was due to the front chin under spoiler, stock undertray, and rear diffuser disguised as the stock exhaust canister.

the front undertray allows for full channeling of the air through the radiator and allows for proper heat extraction, also, it helps protect the belts and engine from foreign objects bouncing up into the engine bay.

if anything i would replace it with an entire flat sheet that extends past the front bumper (aka splitter) or a chaneled front diffuser to improve airflow (make it smoother) such that near the rear of the car the wanna-be stock diffuser works...

a really good book to read on aerodynamics and cars from Joseph Katz
http://www.amazon.com/Race-Car-Aerod...6898367&sr=8-1

it will tell you the benefits of having a smooth underside.

it helps reduce drag at speed substantially. Say it with me, aerodynamics.
It also protects the underside of your engine, ic, etc. From the elements.

It also directs air to the front brakes.

take it off if you like a dirty engine bay, reduced fuel economy, slower track speeds and more noise

otherwise leave it on!

the thing actually channels air to the transfer case and more, there is a tread in a japanese web where it shows everything it does from aero and cooling. took mine off for an experiment and at 90 or so in a straight the front felt shaky, then with it installed it felt a whole lot smoother, plus my engine stays cleaner. to each his own.

Exactly.

1. Reduces front lift and drag
2. Directs air to the transfer case
3. Directs air to the front brakes
4. Improves cooling (radiator and oil cooler) by controller airflow around said components

If you want to change the oil, there are only two panels out of the whole thing that need to be taken off, and they use proper screws instead of the plastic crap.
