Anyone else ditched the plastic protector panel under the car?

so i've been debating on this...on the X, the entire bottom of the front of the car is completely protected by a plastic under panel. it's a nice touch, but i've been debating about its usefulness. two things bug me in particular:

1) is it really necessary?
2) it sags

it gets in my way a lot when i work under the car, but a lot of cars out there don't even have it. also, the passenger side sits really low - it scrapes a lot, and i'm not even lowered yet. all the clips are there; the thing just sags really low. so i'm debating on ditching it entirely. should i expect any repercussions for doing it, or should i leave it on?

I have mine off right now, and was thinking of leaving it off. The only issue I see is that there's now a large, visable gap between the FMIC and front bumper cover. I can only assume that having at least part of the undertray in place will help channel air through the IC instead of under or around it. That said, it's pretty retarded how much is involved in removing everything.

i took mine off when i put on my exhaust. it just got in the way when i was doing my oil changes and especially when i had to get to my oil filter. plus if you were to drop a bolt, nut, tool, etc. you cant ever tell where it landed cause it doesn't fall to the ground. trust i know from experience, i dropped a nut and didnt know where it landed and later on i found out it landed on my starter some how and got in between the starter case and the solenoid ground and totally ****** my starter and had to get a new solenoid......

I wish it wasn't necessary. I'm lowered and it's always scraping, and it's a pain in the *** to take off every time you want to go under the car for oil changes, etc.

I'll probably replace mine with the APR windsplitter when I remove the bumper to install my FMIC.

The undertray?

Leave it on, all you ********!
It helps reduce drag at speed substantially. Say it with me, aerodynamics.
It also protects the underside of your engine, IC, etc. from the elements.

I've had this debate with many people...

Mitsubishi has some very efficient bean-counters and some very bright engineers. The engineers decided that they wanted this car to have a plastic undertray for XYZ reasons, and got into a fight with the bean-counters who complained that it would cost $Z per vehicle that would otherwise go to the bottom line.

In the end, the engineers won, and there's a very good reason for that.

Do you think you are smarter than the engineers? That undertray wasn't specifically installed to **** you off.

I assumed this was the case. But +1 that it's a hassle getting the thing on and off (without a lift.)

I removed mine this afternoon and aside from all the retaining clips, it wasn't all that involved. With a little modification to the plastic shield thing, it fits just fine over the Cusco lower front chassis brace.

Thank god, I thought all of these kids were idiots.

Why do you think Mitsubishi would pester you with an undercarriage cover if it had no use? It designed for aerodynamics and channels the air properly through and out of the engine bay.
