Is the NAVI worth spending the extra 2K
I've been looking into this also.. you can get a new factory navi at any OEM online store for about 950, and the install kit for about 340. Shipping is roughly 100. Installation at the dealer is 120.. so u end up saving atleast 500 bucks.. Instead of paying 2gs at the dealer.

If I remember correctly, the 30GB units were selling for $950 or so and the new larger capacity units are back up to $1,500. If you look around you should be able to find someplace that still has the 30GB units in stock.
I haven't bought the Evo yet as I'm waiting for a 2010, but my 2009 Outlander has the same unit.
It's one of the best I've used and since it's hard drive based better than many others. I've used the Acura and Lexus versions and they are slower to use and respond.
BUT, DVD while driving is NOT possible for now on newer cars, only on the 08 models. The fellow who did the patch has not been able to crack the later model systems.

Thanks in advance
My question would be does it not work on 09 models or did something change with the unit? I ask because I recently got into an accident and totalled my EVO 9 (not my fault) and I am looking at an 08 Evo X with SSS package and want to get the Navi installed as an option. Will the patch work then or no? That answer will determine if I even get the navi..
Thanks in advance

It depends on what firmware the navi has. After a certain number it can't be currently modded.
No AUX video while driving as of right now, only sound.

Not Worth it but if you want an integrated NAV system you don't any other choice.
The few things I don't like (and hate) about the nav are:
Very Weak radio volume output.
Chances are that your last vehicle has a louder radio. CD output not that much stronger
Cannot fast-foward or rewind songs on CD. If there's a certain part of the song that you really love, and you want to rewind just to that point, you are out of luck. The CD player will take you to the beginning of the song. Thank god you can hook up an MP3 player!
No RDS information (song artist display and radio station names for the radio). The standard Lancer Radio does it. The $2k option radio? Nope. The Sirius sat radio displays the Artist and Song Name. Go figure.
No Real-Time Traffic capabilities.
No Ipod control
No USB input
MP3 player input is the clunky RCA jack type. That's OK because of external video capabilities.
Limited color scheme options. Only two choices. My last car, a 2001 had 6 different color schemes choices.
No birds-eye view for the nav. (not a big deal)
The auto-volume adjustment seems to have an effect even if its off. I'll turn it up... and the volume starts to get nice and loud and all of a sudden the volume goes back down to non dynamic levels.
I was really expecting more from Rockford-Fosgate but this stereo is big-time disappointing. I'd give it a 4 out of 10 for the sound, and a 6 out of 10 for features (or lack of) and use of operation. 5 out of 10 sounds about right imo.
Knowing what I know now I would not have gotten the Rockford Stereo. Replacing the non-nav Radio seems even more daunting of a task.
