Evo X MR - A Rookies Review
I have a MR with a Ivey Tune and a K&N Drop in. Its a must, it pulls like a beast now. 296whp/300wtq. I drive in manual sport mode most of the time to get used to it. When i first started out I did a few errant downshifts when i wanted to upshift and thought the tranny was going to fall out, lol, it held fine. I just wasnt used to the paddle shifting. I have come to love this tranny, snapping out shifts at 7500 rpms while the peddle is mashed to the floor is crazy. Planning on a few track days soon.
We head up to Big Bear with my friend and his EVO IX here in Cali and oh what fun. The MR is amazing where it is meant to be driven.
Just leaving the radio off and listen to the sweet sound of turbo spooling is awesome!
I hope it doesn't snow where you live because the stock shoes aren't worth s@!t in the snow...
So re the clunking noise - went to the dealer where I bought it and took the tech for a ride. He heard it, got it on the lift and we instantly noticed a nut on the rear right sway bar so loose we could turn it by hand...not sure if someone at the factory goofed but Im glad it was something stupid...
Cool Car - I got my X MR about two weeks ago. 450 miles. Love the transmission. I had a silver IX SE and it was fun but sucked a** for my 150 mile commute once a week to NY. This car is on a different level in terms of being comfortable as a DD. Also have the tech package which is pretty cool. 0% helped too!
I am writing because today I have a "clunking" sound coming from what sounds like the passenger side rear around the wheel. I didnt hit anything. Nothing loose in the trunk or loose feeling from what I could feel except the plastic around the battery box. I stopped by a local mitsu dealer and took a tech for a ride. He acknowledged the sound but was booked and couldnt get the car on a lift. He said it sounds like metal on metal but didnt think it was anything critical. Ill go to the dealer where I bought it tomorrow. Its not constant - but is annoying as hell.
Im too **** about strange noises and thats the only thing I hate about fun cars. I heard a strange "squeal" on my IX which was very faint...first tech said it was nothing, next tech replaced my timing belt and pulley(s)! I sold the car soon after and had a Civic SI that required nothing but an oil change every 5-7k miles. It was slow but had a slight fun factor. But its tough to live with another car once you drive an EVO...
Hopefully its something stupid - anyone know of similar issue?

i had one big problem with my car 2nd week i had it, it rained real bad went to go to work the next day and there was a lake in my car "passengers side" i was so pissed cause the car was only two weeks old, so i make a big stink with mits and like i stated above they were just worthless, they thought it was my fault lol they said maybe i left the window down or something, they had no clue how the water got in there and they said that the evo's do not have water leaks!
so i basically told them off and left
after gutting out everything in the car seats, lining, center console to dry so it doesnt smell then i start looking for the leak, i found the leak on the passenger side where the boost line go's through the firewall, there was nothing there to stop the water from coming in the car it was just a hole, so the water would just run down the boost line into the car, so i just threw silicone all over the hole and 32,000 later never had a problem. besides my bypass valve being put on upside down from the factory
but i picked up on that as soon as i broke the car in and started boosting for the first time i knew there was something wrong with the dv
Just got my MR last weekend. This car is also my DD. This is my first auto tranny car in 12 years and I have to say the I love the TC-SST. I cant wait to take it out on the track and see what it can do. Overall I LOVE the car, after coming from a 350z and a G35. I already have a custom 3" exhaust with only a resonator, it sounds really deep and not too loud, and im lowered on Tein s-tech springs, which are not my first choice but my wife suprised me with them.
Well I got my X MR about a month ago and I as well love the car. This is also my first performance car, I come from a Auto Mazda 6i and a GSXR 600(lightly modded). I was thrilled with how the car handled and reacted but felt a little left out on the power side.
Will say I keep trying to compare it to my bike but I know that's kinda pointless.
So I followed my hero "Tim 'The Tool Man' Taylor's" words and went for MORE POWER! All I did was get the Cobb AP and flashed it to the stg 1 map. After that it definitely felt right. More power, faster spool, car reacts better throu the RPM range. In all wonderful car, excellent DD , but it does need the tune. (currently waiting on clutch upgrades to keep modding for.... MORE POWER!)

No. I bought my EVO X MR in February (Canadian winters suck) and it came with the same Yokohomas as all EVO X's do. They will gladly sell you tires extra but they aren't an option.
