Evo X Headlight Situation
Evo X Headlight Situation
I tried searching but I didnt really know how to search this so I just figured I'd post.
I have non-HID headlights on my Evo and i decided to install HID bulbs. They were working fine, until one day I hit a pot hole and my passenger headlight went out. I was like wth, so I pulled over and checked the headlight and the housing and the HID box and everything seemed fine. I made sure no plugs or anything got loose or something and turned the lights back on. Now the passenger light was working again but it wasn't as bright. It seemed like it was like at 70% brightness. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I even removed all of the hardware, bulbs and box and switched them around. Putting all of the driver side hardware on the passenger side. Same thing happened, only the passenger side was dim. So it wasn't the HIDs themselves. So I've now removed the HIDs and reinstalled the stock bulbs and they're fine, both are at the same brightness, does anyone know what could possible be wrong?
Thank you for reading.

i know sometimes in a sealed beam assembly that if the bulb itself moves (as far as positioning goes) the light will spread differently and will seem more dim than before because the light pattern isnt the same. mm matter inside of a sealed beam headlight and that pothole couldve just owned that particular bulb. hope this helps.
I wish that was the situation but I actually held the bulb side by side (making sure I dont actually touch the bulbs themselves) and the one hooked up to the passenger side wiring was dimmer.
Cheap Asian made retrofit Kit. None of the Asian bulb and ballast kits are of good quality.
You need OEM HID. Buy from a junk yard (or ebay seller, well rated ones) if you want to save money. Stick with D2S bulbs from Osram (Sylvania) Philips or GE. Try the HID planet forums for good info. http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/
^ this.
HIDs work on a very high voltage. Cheap ballasts (what convert the low voltage in your car to the high voltage needed by the HID bulb) tend to flicker, dim, die, overheat, melt wiring, etc. (lots of bad things, few good things).
When you hit the bump the ballast likely died.

Well, I can only talk about my issues with my hid's and hope it helps. Sometimes one of my hids wont come on, I turn my lights off (they flicker) then turn them back on and it still wont come on. I have to actually park, pull the hand brake turn off the car turn it back on then turn on the lights and release the hand brake and it restores power to them both.
