Oil change, tire rotation and...seven mile test drive???

Took my car in for its second service today. 9141 miles at drop off. They did an oil change, alignment and tire rotation and hood latch recall.

I picked it up with 9148 miles. The receipt also states in black and white Miles In: 9141/Miles Out: 9148.

I didn't notice till after I left but I'll ask when I get my follow up phone call what the hell needs to be test driven for 7 miles after an oil change?

If my clutch goes in 3 months, what recourse do I have? Obviously none but I'm a bit ticked.

They may have taken the car to a contracted shop for the alignment because a lot of dealerships don't have an alignment machine.

I think you're overreacting. After doing an alignment, I'm sure they test drove the car to make sure the car drives straight and the wheels are properly balanced.

By chance, did you mention the car was pulling to either side whilst driving? If so, I'd expect some miles on the car after an alignment.

Lets not assume all service mechanics beat the living daylights out of customers cars; only 98% of them do.

i work at a dealership as a technician and i personally say that after an alignment i make it a point to drive the car on residential streets around the dealership as well as a drive on the highway. I don't want my steering wheels off after one of my alignments so I would'nt really worry about it. Sounds right to me. I was actually pissed after my dealer replaced my CV axles in the front (see my other thread) and didn't do an alignment/ test drive. Don't worry. They arent' joyridding your car believe me i work on cars too and most places don't pay for a technicians test drive. So think yourself lucky

That actually makes me feel a little better. And yes, it does drive a little smoother.

yeah i have a lot of friends that are mechanics, most of the time they dont mash on the cars, they might however "test drive" to grab some lunch.

that's 3.5 miles down the highway probably to the next exit and back. though i don't like when they drive the car either unless i have a specific complaint to how it drives.

i took my x in right after i got it because it seemed to be pulling to the right. the manager took it out, launched it and came back and said it was fine. uh because the 50 miles i drove to get there wasn't enough to tell whether it was off or not. i never went back there.

i had another dealership hand me back my last car with over 40 miles extra on it with a quarter tank low. i traded it in same day and got my x. not with the same dealership though.

No worries I am sure the tech just wanted to make sure that he had the alignment dead on. He did not want a come back. Sounds like he did a good job.
What dealer did you take it to?

Pretty normal. Every time I get my wheels aligned, the tech drives it to make sure everything's fine.

You'll be fine.

I don't know if it's available for the X yet, but the kind folks at English Racing were good enough to add a valet feature to my ecu. When activated the car won't rev over 3k. Kinda hard to beat on a car when it cuts out right after it's gotten into boost.

Many times I just wait on the car, esp oil changes, so I know the car isn't going out for a test drive which is not needed for an oil change.

As for alignments and tires, I suggest this; take the car and wait on it, ask if it needs to be test driven, if so tell them you want to go with the tech.
