That is the key. Also, another option is to get thin clear plastic mats and put them over the stock ones, these will not hold water, but will keep them so much nicer.

I tried some other rubber mats on top of the oem mats, but it put my feet too high against the pedal pivot arc. So I decided to just go ahead and sacrifice the mat like it is intended. At first I thought I'd keep the car reasonably pristine, but after going off course in the gravel, a couple of other scratches and constantly using the car for everyday use, I gave up.

Ooooh that's nice. You could wrap your seats in plastic too. I know an old lady who does that with her couches and has clear plastic runners in her living room. Very classy. Her stuff should last forever too.

Looks better than you think, and looks better than a ragged up floormat.

The lancer all season mats is the best route overall.

I'm experiencing some of the same wear as described, with 6,300 miles. I figure I'll just replace them when they get really bad. You could always go the route of having two sets, and only use the new set when you show the car.

My car has 1,500 miles on it and the driver's side mat looks like it has 50k of wear on it.

Yea the stock mats are POS crap mats! I wonder if the Ralliart ones are the same way. Might have to get me a set of the all season ones!
