we used Rfielders evo X to tow another evo the car broke the crank position sensor a mile from the shop and it was like 3 am. we threw a rope around the hooks and dragged the evo 8 back to the shop with his X. worked just fine so if the question is CAN an evo X tow another car, the answer is yes

CAN it tow a car on a trailer is a different question than SHOULD it tow a car on a trailer.

It CAN most likely tow the car.

I doubt it can do it safely so take caution. Just because a car weighs 3200 pounds, doesn't mean that it can tow 3200 pounds. And towing is not the same thing as stopping.

not a good idea.

you can do it, but please don't complain to your dealership or to mitsubishi on how your drivetrain is now cooked because of YOUR actions.

just because it can doesn't mean you should.

It won't hurt the clutch, the EVO has plenty of tq. I wouldn't ride the clutch, take it easy on the brakes and stay away from the curves. Keep it in the right gears, don't let the car bog down and cause more stress on the drive train... Would I do it to my EVO? NO! But I do believe it could be done. People often act like our clutches are made of sponge, if you don't burn/ride the clutch it's just as good as any other factory clutch!

P.S. If AWD vehicles weren't made to pull weight why does the Endeavor have a tow package and every other AWD SUV/CUV?

With the damage that you are going to cause your evo, your better off just buying an old truck.

stock mitsu clutches (the oem manufacturer escapes me right now) are just as good as any other oem unit. they have gotten a bad rap over the years b/c of countless people either learning to drive manual on them or because they have no idea what is considered "abuse." my stock clutch in my viii lasted 65K miles even though i used quite agressively (IMO). mind you, i have driven manuals for over 10 years.

of course it can be done. no one is saying that an evo cannot tow. the point is that you SHOULD NOT. just b/c a car has the power and torque to yank on something doesn't mean it's an acceptable use. if that be the case, a lambo, rs4, or veyron should be able to pull quite a bit. no?

the reason why certain vehicles are offered a "tow package" is because the package includes some type of upgrade in regards to the drivetrain or the respective fluids. plus, your statement even mentioned that only suv/cuv offer these types of addition. last i checked, the evo is neither.

Usually the only difference between a vehicle that's not equipped with a tow package and a vehicle that is equipped with a tow package is, a bigger transmission cooler. Most SUV's/CUV's are automatic and require that, where as a standard shift doesn't. Like I said I wouldn't tow myself, however I've had over 1300 lbs. in my EVO and it acted perfectly normal, once again I wasn't towing the weight either. I think it could be done but I would not try so myself. And I agree with you, are clutches are tough.

well, all these questions, no matter how common knowledge some may think they are, are beneficial. not too many people read a car's owner's manual cover to cover. so these thread may bring attention to an item that some may have missed. include all the replies, and it may provide enough valuable knowledge to the evo-owning community.

I realize that what you're saying is correct - that there is nothing inherently wrong with towing with an Evo X - but did you really have to revive this train-wreck of nonsense to do so?
