so i checked the power steering fluid level, and its way below MIN, so i need some suggestions on what i should do. should i A. put some oil in by myself, or B. still take it to the dealership which is an hour drive btw. i think there might be a leak in there because i saw oil on the ground a couple times when i drove my car off the lot. help plzzzzzzzzzzzz

I say take it to the dealer. It may be an hour away, however you'd be driving that hour anyway to buy the Mitsubishi Genuine Power Steering fluid that is recommended you use. Plus, you just said you think you may have a leak, again, even more reason to take it to the dealer.

did u touch it and make sure it was oil and not just water from the AC? I would just put the power steering fluid in and see if it goes down again... it might go down a bit as it pumps through the system, so just top it off, but if it drops way low then take it in. I don't know why a new car would need power steering fluid to begin with, but I guess you never know.

If it wasn't water then i'd take it in.

your car is fine

its a performance race car for the streets and all those noises are normal.

Since your new to cars and evos in general two/three words of advice...

1) mitsu is very pickey with warranty stuff... so many people try to get warranty coverage on components after modding it that it makes it difficult to get things covered sometimes... so if you are thinking about moding the car I would put some good miles into it and see if there are any major defects before you run the risk of not having them cover anything.

2) READ, READ, READ up on the SST... it is NOT a bullet proof 5speed.

3) and enjoy its a lot of car and you can get into some serious trouble with it :-), would highly recommend getting envolved in a local AutoX club <--- relatively cheap and takes the agressive driving edge off.

^Agreed^
Drive with the ASC on unless your off roading that is meant to be on under normal driving, and especially excessive driving. It works with the SAWC and is an important system. It has the option to turn it off so that you can take it off road/loose road surface without it trying to fight your driving, and fighting switching TQ/brakes everytime a wheel slips.

You have alot to learn USE the Warranty whenever you can, read the manual, and as much online as possible! the EVO is a Cheaper HIgh performance vehicle, and it can be very expensive to fix repair, and maintain, so keep thins in mind especially since our working two jobs, the last thing you need is a large repair bill, due to a stupid mistake.

Hey man,
I have a 2008 GSR and a seal on the Power Steering Rack failed/leaked and I lost all of my fluid over a week. It got louder (whine) and then got jerky. I was going to check the fluid right before it got jerky and bought some fluid but since it got all jerky I took it to the dealer. Yours is maybe not so severe on your car. Just take it to the dealer. They fixed mine 7 months ago and no more problems. It is covered by the warranty. Good Luck!

I couldn't tell it had been leaking. (old parking lot with plenty of old Oil etc) and I wasn't really looking for a leak when I would leave the space at work.... plus it was a new car..but hey...it happens.

If it's low, fill it up with an approved fluid (the fill-cap should say what to use) then take it to the dealer as soon as you can.

Good luck!

dude!! Are you serious? You show up in every thread with some answer that doesn't make any sense!!! The noises he is describing are NOT normal and fluid leaking is NOT normal... please don't pass your ignorance onto others.

where did you hear this? I know for a fact that happened on the car I bought. Are there any long term effects if they had them on for a short drive before realizing it? i only know b/c when i went to test drive it the kid said i couldnt after he pulled it up b/c it had something still on the wheels from the factory but he drove a short distance up and back like that.
