APR Vortex Genrtr. & Hood Scoop on MR

After purchasing and installing only two of APR products I can honestly say that I am completely satisfied with the Form, Fit, and Function !! If you plan on getting any of their stuff, I highly recommend it. Contact Peter, he’s an awesome guy in helping out with any questions and truly believes in customer service and satisfaction.

So a few months back I was reading in the forums about Carbon Fibre Vortex Generators and found out that applications for the MR (with Tech-Pckg, Sirius radio), had fitment problems or did not exist. Finally contacted Peter (at APR), who at the time said they were in the process of completing their R&D. He kept in contact with me through the whole process, now here we are with the final product…

Both the VG and Scoop have great final finishes (polished) and best of all, is what real Carbon Fiber is all about, lightweight without the excessive resin to hide imperfections causing extra weight that other manufacturers have. The Scoop has that extra raised height to allow more air flow for cooling of the turbocharger. I complemented this by enlargening the opening on the thin aluminum hood insulator (I simply used a dremel with slow careful application to prevent bending/warping/damaging the insulator plate). I plan on adding a mesh into the opening of the scoop sometime, purely for Aethetic reasons…

how much was the hood scoop? Did it directly replace the oem scoop or did you have to make minor mods to make it fit

Fitment is great!! I just used some adhesive promoter from 3M to help with the included double sided tape. I was concerned about the size of the fins (since there was mention of this on other threads about other mfg's VG's also being smaller), but was reassured that there was R&D performed on this VG. Taking a look at the OEM VG (check out Europes EVO X FQ400's VG), the fins are the same size, and comparing the EVO 8 & 9's VG, it apparently looks proportional (8&9's are bigger in comparison, due to a "steeper" rear window, at least that's what I believe).

Checkmout APR's Website for prices:

The scoop was a direct replacement just 4 nuts (no adhesives, real easy, just remember to squeeze two plastic tabs on the OEM scoop to complete removal), and removal of the aluminum insulator plate. As I mentioned above, I just opened up and made the rectangular opening wider and symetrical

So they knowingly sold many of those VG's that don't lay correctly on our cars, huh?

And now they fixed that problem by completely removing the part that didn't conform to the roof?

APR sucks in my book. Send a new VG to me and everyone else who bought the VG in good faith and ended up with the problem of modifying it to make it work.

I wouldn't buy from them again, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone because, once again, they knowingly sold a part that doesn't fit.

So you ordered a VG from them, and what car was it for a GSR or MR, did it have a regular stereo or Sattellite Radio (Sirius)?

the ones for the GSR/MR with the satellite radio did not fit properly, it took them until now to fix it. Just search and you will see

So it appears that this is a NEW part and is showing to only fit the MR and base GSR (Part #CF-410014).

I thought that the GSR w/SSS package and the MR had the same antenna base???

His MR does have the SSS package. He just has a shorty antenna.

I unfortunately didn't look into immediately returning this part. It is mounted on my car. I just emailed them, so I'll see what happens. I want to exchange it, not return it. It's funny because on their site it says that they check each piece to make sure it fits perfectly LOL.

^^^ That's my point. I would have thought that the GSR/SSS and the MR/SSS have the same antenna base (not antenna - the base which is larger due to the Sirius radio) and hence would use the same VG.

However, when you look at the APR site - http://www.aprperformance.com/index....d=88&Itemid=44

It shows the following -

Part - CF-410012 (the original VG with the cover over the antenna base) - Fits GSR with SSS Package only

Part - CF-410014 (the VG installed by the OP) - Fits MR and base GSR only

The base GSR has a much smaller antenna base I believe. Am I missing something? I've been holding off on getting this due to all the reports of fitment issues.

Guys, simply call APR and talk to Peter, (909)594-3796. I'm sure he can direct you to the right application. I was told the the GSR vs MR fitments are a little different, not so much because of the attenna but I think where the antenna is positioned or the contour of the rain gutters.

Sorry about your experience Fishstix, that's why I had to ask above if you had the GSR or an MR, because there are some differences. Again, as I stated above, ask for Peter and I'm sure he can help or get some assistance if there are any questions on fitment. My post here is specific for the MR with the Tech pkg (SiriusRadio), and again my experience has been nothing but stellar, and in just one weekend, have been getting complements on how the appearance has improved over stock, with people looking upclose to the VG and commenting on the quality and fitment.
