AMEN. You are lucky to go on a trip and not get stranded! I thought about getting a bigger gas tank as well but then would the guage even read correctly?! errrrr! Its about the same range as a motorcyle and even they add fuel cells.

yea the range does suck. CC is your friend on long hauls.

i wonder if different tunes are available. if you were driving long distances, flip a switch for gas saver mode, and then when you want fun, flip a switch to gas guzzler mode.

If someone came out with a larger design fuel tank that held 3-5 more gallons of gas and also integrated a fuel starvation solution for hard left handers it would sell well. I'm not sure how you could get more capacity out of the stock location without either making the tank extend an inch lower or using space that is nearby that isn't utilized. It would be nice to have a longer range before filling up and still be able to run the tank lower for track use.

Perhaps I'm missing something. Is it very difficult to stop and refuel?

Have you ever been to Utah or Nevada. I really feel for people in parts of Australia with lancers...now that's an exercise in fuel planning.

^ I drove my mkiv supra through utah, nevada and Colorado. I basically stopped for gas every opportunity and kept a 5gal tank full in the hatch.

Though I have an 18 gallon tank and can achieve 26mpg it was still scary seeing signs like "next gas 150 miles"

Yeah, it'd be nice to have a larger tank when running e85 especially since the gas stations are pretty far and few between. The fact that you get even worse gas mileage and the tank gets awfully small.

At those distances the small fuel capacity forces me to stop 1 to 2x more times than when I drive cars with a longer range... if you add up pulling off the free way getting to the stating.. fueling up... stuff... bact to the highway etc.... it can add 20-30min per stop.... so to drive there and back it can add 1-2hours more of travel time.

Also as stated above there are some areas where there isn't a gas station every mile, like in the city, or every other exit, like busy highways.

Used to drive a Mustang (yes I know please refrain from teh bashing ) but one option you could get from vendor was a replacement fuel tank that added 5+ gal to the stock tank, it was just a slightly larger tank that extended down another inch or two.

I figure someone is going to extend the range of their X sooner or later beacuse the ONLY complaint I have about the car so far is its limited range.
