Gates311: Evo X Reliability
Agreed. Nothing but a lot of bolt ons and a tune running 500AWHP is very impressive. I had my doubts when I heard that the 4B11 was an aluminum block but it has proven itself to be worthy inside an Evo, let alone, the X.
dont need airbags, dont need rear seats, dont need mats, dont need audio, dont need a/c.
crash beams are the only thing you named that is really needed.
remember, he has racing seats with harnesses and other safety measures.
I would DD a car with no rear interior, spare, airbags or audio.
I personally like my a/c though. But i rarely use it.
Depends on how much luxory you need. Crash beams are needed though i think.

I think what this shows is that definitely no one with a X has to worry about blowing their motor up to 500whp, especially considering one driven like Gates'. Provided it's well taken care of, of course. That's excellent peace of mind.
hats off to you mate, you can put up with a lot. I'm still moaning and groaning about the lack of a higher gear for the highway engine noise..

Crash beams I believe are required in all 50 states, however you wouldn't find out until after the accident.
Also and i can tell you from experience.. airbags do exactly what they say. For those of you who don't know. Airbags say they will save your life, not prevent injuries. I have been in an accident with deployed airbags and suffered a slip disc in my neck from the airbag deploying as well as 2nd degree burns on both of my arms from the bag. Yes i know i was saved from worse injury than if the bag wasnt there, i also wouldnt have suffered the burns if i was wearing a 5pouint harness instead.
my point is don't overrate your airbags, they are only deesigned to keep you alive... exactly like a 5point harness.
also ryan gates sucks, he never comes to vegas so i can get the ride in the car he promised me :P

The romantic notion of a race car for the street is really just a silly fantasy that doesn't really work.
Wow. This went off track. This isn't about daily driver safety. It's about how well his engine is holding up with all the abuse he puts it through. Who cares if he daily drives it? Only a crazy man would drive a fully-prepped race car on the streets.
I think Gates gives the props, and properly so to Mitsu and AMS... don't know if its operator error I think it has to do with a good base motor and AMS knowing how to add power they correct way.
You also have to think... Maybe Gates just happens to have gotten a great motor... not all parts are made equal... if I saw a few more cars do what Gates has (8k+ track miles on the motor) then i would be really impressed.
