Should I buy Evo X?

Hey guys please excuse my ignorance, but i felt this was the best place to ask. A lot of you already have an Evo x and i'd like you opinion. I have a lot of money now, being deployed, and I'm looking at a new car when I get back in Dec 09. I live upsate NY so AWD is a +, but my FWD does fine for a cpl more years till I move. OK-

My options are anything at or around 33k just so I dont go too expensive.
1. 2010 Evo x gsr
2. 2010 Camaro SS 6spd $31K
3. 2010 wrx
4. dont know lol

- I know this is pointless but I love the Evo's looks, but its so damn heavy.
- The Camaro is 426hp and hott also, at the same price, but not AWD... hmmm
- The Wrx has engine problems, doesnt look as good, but it is faser 0-60 (4.7), and save $8k, but it runs way too lean to modify safely...

So my question is, is it worth the $$ 33+,000 ?? Ive done all the reasearch on all three, months of reading, can I get a lil help here. What should I buy, pay, recommended colors, ect...

Any mods to these cars will not exceed intake, exhaust, lowerd, and maybe bigger rims if I'm feeling saucey. Thanks

I don't know if 2010 Evo X will be around 33k. It might take a few months at least, and afaik there are no major changes from 08 to 2010.

I think unless you are set on a specific color (like white is impossible to find on an 08) and only a new EvoX you might want to look at the 08 models instead. It's gonna be cheaper, which means more money for mods.

And as far as the weight thing goes, from what I have seen it seems easy to mod to 300+ whp with just bolt-ons and a good tune. That would negate some of the extra weight, so it should only be an issue if you are planing to track the car.

For your intentions I'd say go with the Crapmaro. It would suck in the winter, but you're moving anyways right? It has a cool retro look, more powa (you can't beat 426 hp with just intake/exhaust and tune on an X, but it's not too far off) and it'd end up around the same price.

If you search for a deal and don't care about HIDs and all that, you can get the base model GSR and qualify for 0% APR and have lower monthly payments than the Crapmaro, but at that point it's up to you.

If you're an avid snowboarder then the WRX is the clear choice. Utility, AWD for the winters (I lived north of Albany for a winter), cheaper, your intentions aren't a track monster anyways yet all three have very similar 0-60 times.

As for color, that's all up to you buddy. Just know that the pickins on 2008 (aka great deals) Evo X's are slim nowadays, WW has been gone for many months and most dealers only have silver and red, if any at all, left.

The WRX barley gets 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, it totally kills the life of the clutch and drive train. I've seen GSR's hit 0-60 in 4.6 to 4.9 and pull 1g on the skid. I've yet to encounter any problems with my engine, the paint isn't the greatest nor is the WRX's! Yes, it's 8k cheaper but you get what you pay for! If you're looking for a one trick pony the WRX and Comaro are just that, if you want something with speed and handling there's only one car in it's class (Evo)...

Just so you know, the Camaro SS weighs a couple of hundred pounds more than the X, while providing much less utility, so I don't know why you are so hung up on the Evo's weight.

Just go buy yourself an automatic WRX or Camaro, because you obviously did no research of your own.

BTW, an Evo X with an intake, exhaust, and ECU flash will destroy the Camaro in both a straightline and corners.

if the only issue with the Evo X for you is the weight, that should be disregarded as the camaro actually is heavier. the awd is a great thing to have. also, you can def get an evo X for less than 33k , i'm not too sure about 2010 , but the 08 models , new, will go for significantly less, which is always good, more mod money ! if you are into that. its a comfy, fun, and reliable ride !

my final opinion. A WW Evo X !!
i might be a bit biased though.

Destroy in a straight line...???

Anyways, I didn't see you mention utility anywhere on the comparisons so I assume you're not interested in 4 doors, a hatch, etc?

- ya how does your manufacture's warranty dept like the ecu flash; I've been there/ done that (legal BS) ill wait till warr is over thanks though, just in case, I know the evo is fast man, Its a great car, and yes the maro is heavy and probably built with less care.

Thanks guy! but your no help. Like the original intension of this thread: this is a neutral perspective, and I have done my research!

I'm Am an Evo lover and will always be, but I'm also a car lover in general, and dont limit myself to a certain type car, I want to experience all types, and I personally have not yet been in an Evo X. How are they, honestly, Im 10,000 miles away and cant go test drive one lol.

Yeah. A stock Camaro SS runs low to mid 13's in the 1/4 mile, whereas a bolt ons Evo runs low to mid 12's. He lives in NY, so an AWD vehicle would be much better. The Evo's extra seats won't hurt either in case he ever wants more than 1 passenger.

If you have done your research, you should be able to decide on your own. It's your money, not ours. Even stock, the Evo is in another league that a Camaro can't touch. Camaros are one trick ponies. Stick a big engine in a heavy body that can't do anything other than go straight. If that's what you want, then go ahead and buy it. If you want one of the best balanced performance cars on the market, get an Evo X.

I say when you get back test drive all three. By that time there will be snow and may the best car win! We can provide you data, facts, etc. but i think its a different experience when you test drive a car. Its difficult to explain how the car handles, corners, how it feels in general, the interior, etc.

Just my 02 cents.

I for one would never cross shop a Comaro, WRX, and EVO X. You can tell he doesn't know what we wants by the SS and the WRX. He's looking at the zero to 60 times when all the cars are on par, the X (stock) will keep up with the SS and WRX if not beat them, it would honestly come down to the driver. I mean come one, 400 hp and a stock X (291 hp) could tie or even beat it in a quarter... No thank you!

P.S. Just so no one get my info wrong, I'm talking about quarters from a dig, not that rolling start crap!
