Dealer gave me one smart key
Dealer gave me one smart key
Just out of curiosity I'd like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. I bought my evo new about 3 mths ago and I was handed one smart key and told by my salesman that the car only comes w/ the one key. He gave some b/s excuse about due to the design of the smart key there is no need for a spare... I thought to myself, that is probably one of the dumbest things I've ever heard but what'ev I'm not going to argue w/ the guy. So first thing, I read the owners manual and clear as day it states that you should be given two keys. Not that it's a huge deal but I was a little pissed about being lied to and fed a line like I'm some kind of idiot. About two months ago I informed the service manager and he ordered a second key. I never received a call to pick up the key so I asked about it when I went in for my first oil change this past friday...and he says the key arrived and has been w/ my salesman for about a month. I ask the salesman where my key is and he says the new key will cost over $200! I kindly encouraged him to read the owners manual as the evo, like all other cars on this planet, come with two keys... but of course, being a mitsu dealer and all, he did not have access to an evo owners manual and he'll need to check with his manager on this! So now I'm waiting to hear back from his manager... Can't wait to find out how they handle a real problem, like when the pos SST tranny blows.
Mine only came with one key, by self-admitted-dealer-screw-up.
So, I told my car sales man, who just made a large commission off of me, that I, the owner of that shiny new car, need another key. For free.
No questions asked, they called me back in to get it programmed.
Sounds like you just need to man up and be like "yo, biatch, I'm driving a 40 thousand dollar lancer, give me a key, or I'll complain and whine"

I bought my Evo used, and it only came with one smart key. I got super pissed at the sales manager and told him I would have reconsidered the price of the car had I known they only had one key. Magically the next day they told me they found the other one.
This is my second vehicle with the smart key. THEY COME WITH TWO, period. My 09 Lancer GTS came with two, I bought it new. Don't let them screw you.

If you get them to get you a 2nd key, make them reprogram BOTH of them. That extra key is somewhere, and its not like evos are common. if they cant get you the original, they need to make the lost one not work
Funny how you somehwhat knew that you should have been given 2 keys from the start, but decided to just leave with one. That was probably the best time to argue, or be shown some kind of proof. Well hopefully your mistake of just leaving wont haunt you.
Comes with two. Salesman will do whatever they can to avoid a car not going out. Lot of times the porters have the keys or they are around the dealership somewhere. Depending on the pride the salesman takes in his job they will go locate them or order a new one without hesitation.
When you are buying a car too you are somewhat vulnerable cuz you want to take it home that night..... but in some cases you should refrain to make sure you get the deal you want and everything that is included with the car, ie both sets of keys.
This guy flat out lied to you. Talk to the sales, or the general manager and get some free goodies otta the deal... oil changes... whatnot.
Good luck with this situation.

You need to get them to unpair all the keys, and then add only the two in your possession, if that is possible.
