The Evo X sounds like....
I have poured over so many exhaust videos and read countless reviews of aftermarket exhaust systems for the Evolution X over the last year or so. After the installation of my Buschur Racing Crossflow exhaust each time I start the car I think about the sound of the Evo X and what I could compare it to. I can't quite put my finger on it. To those that have converted from an Evo VIII or IX, what are your thoughts? Does the Evo X with an aftermarket exhaust sound like....well, an Evo? Call me crazy but when I back into my garage and and throw a couple revs before I pull the emergency brake my car has a minor hint of G35/37 or 350/370Z in it.
Which is fine with me as I really like the exhaust note on those cars, aftermarket or stock but that's the only thing I could remotely compare it to. If you have any thoughts please share...

I don't think it sounds like a Nissan VQ at all. V6s typically (and especially the VQ) sound coarse and blatty. I think inline engines sound symphonic and awesome.
But as far as the X goes, it changes dramatically depending what style of exhaust you have since there are so many. When you have a single muffler upstream and two long pipes, it can make the car sound like an SRT-4, and I don't like that much. Single side typical exit makes it sound most like an Evo (4G63), but its a little more sublime. I have a T1R now, and it almost sounds stock. There is a hint of rumble, but it is very subdued.
Anyway, so many types of exhausts available makes some serious variety of sound.

My MR with the T1R sounded stock, which I did not like! When pushed hard, high revs, the stock sound is not very awe inspiring: The T1R did not improve that feeling.
I now have the AMS twin tip exhaust with the largest hole plate in the Passenger side outflow and it is fantastic. I am enjoying driving my car more than ever before.

iono... my buddy has an viii and his exhaust sounds really good i think its greddy? anyways im running the single tip ams test pipe and catback. my car compared to his reminds me of two brothers.
the viii being the little brother (deep, throaty, almost ricer ish?) my x being the older mature brother (deeper, louder, but less bass sounding if you know what i mean?)
overall imo the x sounded better than the viii but maybe its a user preference?

I can only classify the X exhaust note as, an EVO. I think each maker has a unique sound, for instance my friends (stock) STi has a lower more spread out sound than my EVO, you can hear him coming down the road from quite a ways out. It makes the car sound very lethargic once he steps on it, the instant I mash the gas pedal on my EVO it's a much more focused and higher exhaust note! It sounds like there's a bunch on angry squirrels trapped inside the gas tank trying to regain freedom! Some people may like a louder exhaust, as I did when I was a teenager... I myself try to stay away from the Si and SRT-4's exhaust notes. The X really comes a live once you're in 5th gear and in the higher rpm range, this to me is the ultimate music to my ears!
My stock MR sounds like a jet engine. I've never had a car that sounded so mechanical with the high pitched whine and whooshing from the intake. In stock form with the TC-SST transmission it barely sounds like an internal combustion engine and more like a high speed centrifugal compressor or helicopter engine.
I had the ETS dual exhaust initially, was the meanest sounding car I had ever owned, but man was it LOUD... not to mention the exhaust came in like 15 pieces and was a pain in the *** to install and get lined up correctly, needless to say I didn't stay with that long.
Switched to RRE stealth and I am diggin' it for the most part, a little more drone than I would like but still a nice deep rumble when WOT.
To be quite honest the X doesn't sound like much of anything I have ever heard, which is quite alright, it just sounds like an X. Although if you blind folded me and sent a couple of VIII's, IX's and X's my way I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference but maybe around 60% of the time.
