Revs intermittently Dipping

Hi Everyone,

I am the proud owner of a stock Evo X GSR, and i've only had it for about 1700 miles so far, but I've noticed that frequently when the engine is idling on neutral after a cold start, the revs dip to slightly below idle (around 500) and then jumps back up to idle at 700 immediately. The needle makes a seesawing motion, and where it wavers a couple times, but then it corrects itself shortly back to idle at 700.

Is this something I should be worried about? Are any of you experiencing something like this?

Thanks for your help in advance.

You probably need the latest factory/dealer reflash which is ROM 80020 for the GSR. If I remember correctly, 80015 and prior ROMs had this idle issue. Your dealer might give you a hardtime if you ask for it... so my advice is be polite, explain to them that your idle is very unstable; that you are stalling on stoplights; that you "researched" this on the net and the solution is to get the latest reflash. They should be aware of this since there is a TSB for it posted here somewhere. I got mine without any questions as this can be a road hazard/safety issue.

do you have an intake?
is the AC on?

both of these can affect idle and cause dips/spikes.

The car's 100% stock, and I make a habit to never have the A/C on when I drive. I called the dealer about a month ago about this issue, and the response I got was that they've never heard of this reflash and that they don't do any reflashes. They are an established, certified Mitsubishi dealer. Am I just getting BS?

^ You could call MMNA headquarters and report your issues and the dealer who refused to accomodate you.

So im not the only 1. I have about 800 miles on my car and my car has been doing this for about 2 weeks now. I will call tomorrow and see what my dealer says the issue may be.

Mine does it as well. Just a little less with the latest reflash.

Mine does it too, it also hesitates at high RPMs under WOT, I've taken it to the dealership and they refuse to reflash it because they "can't replicate the problem."

Mine still does it even after the flash [08-13-006].

I'm going back to the dealership on Thursday for rear diff replacement, and I will mention this issue again. Hopefully, I get flashed again using REVII.

OT but someone asked.

lol , rest of the 08 has nothing to be alarmed, yet. I've searched this forum for rear diff leak, none found. It took two months of ownership before I noticed the leak stains in my garage. The leak isnt too bad that the fluid level is still normal. However, a leak is a leak. Thankfully, SC Mitsu pushed for a full rear diff replacement and not just repacking or repairing it. Under WARRANTY of course

As stated earlier, this is not my first M/T or AWD car, so I dont think I beat on it hard to break the rear diff.

Yes you are getting BS. Find the TSB # on the forum somewhere and show them there is one out for similar issues.

I had the reflash done about a month ago. The flutter on high RPMs is gone, it pulls hard all the way to red line. But i still have the sig sag/up and down idle.
