There are dozens of reasons that would turn away most people from buying an Evo (big paint issues, cheap interior -- I feel like those sunvisors will start falling apart in weeks, seats/pillars falling apart, minuscule trunk, drinks gas like no other, eats tires, expensive to maintain, etc).

Despite all these "shortcomings", I still have no regrets about buying an Evo X. I've wanted an Evo for almost 10 years now and am ecstatic to finally have one, and driving it is always a blast.

If GSR is the only model worth looking at (manual). Main differences are as follows:

Tail Lamps with Black Extensions - $327 on here
Short Pole Antenna - 200mm - $30 shipped from Perrin
Newly styled high-contrast meter design with full color LCD Multi-Function Information Display (MID)
Hands Free Bluetooth cell phone interface system w/ voice recognition microphone
Higher Price

Other than that, not much.

I've wanted an Evo since the 8 came out, but just couldn't bring myself to buy one cuz the local dealers here wouldn't budge on pricing and I thought it was a bit impractical given the reviews (stiff ride, high maintenance costs, etc). Fast forward 6 years later, I saw the new Evo's bodystyling, more livable, more practical DD, and got interested again. Then I found a great deal and the 0% APR was hard to resist. So I pulled the trigger a couple months back and couldn't be happier with the purchase... now I'm hooked playing (safety in mind) with OpenECU & Evoscan.

I love my Evo X. I've had it for around 10 months, and it still feels new and exciting every time I get in it. I came from an E46 M3 and Evo 9 and don't regret it one bit. The nav/sound system rocks too.

Anyway, thoughts on your E46 vs. the Evo X? While they are around the same weight, I found the E46 not be the driver's car the E36 M3 or the Evo X is. Soft, muted steering feel. Even with suspension mods they don't feel all that tossable.

I'm waiting for the seller to get the title, which he should have on Monday or Tuesday.

Just got back from the dealership. Drove a 997 Carrera S with the Direct Injection motor. Holy crap what a great car. They have improved the chassis and suspension a bit since my original 997 S launch car (06).

But, it stickered at 100k. Base was 80 something. Used they are still in the 80s. So, its a little over 3x the evo.

Result?

Evo + a pool wins over the 997S.

Let the tuning games begin.
When you start looking at preowned 2005/06 997s the whole Evo vs 911 thing gets very interesting. I'm seeing 997s out there with 20k mileage going in the high $40k low 50k range and that's before any negotiation takes place.

Great cars to be sure. The best 911 yet, and my pick for street use (997S).

You'll never get insane Evo power out of them, but a great driving experience nevertheless.

I love the car, it's awesome, just wish it had 6 gears instead of 5.

^^How long did you have your Nismo? I had an 08 (#1013) as well for about 6 months before a few snowings forced me to get rid of it. I saw yours on the my350z boards with the twin turbo setup. Very nice!! Did you like it or wanted something else?
