Is there a modding for newbies thread?

Looking for suggestions on straightforward upgrade paths. I'm not after max power at the expense of drivability, but rather, healthy bump in power while minimizing turbo lag and improving throttle response.

Thanks.

There sure is, probably one of the best threads on EvoM. Courtesy of the one and only chaotichoax:

Easy:
1.Dyno tune or get an AP(If you get an AP, I say get one from Perrin to get their map)
2.Catback exhaust
3.High-flow Cat or Test pipe

Not too many mods and that is going to be a VERY nice power bump compared to stock.

There are no gains to be had from just a downpipe; the stock unit flows just fine. An O2 Housing/downpipe combo will yield slight gains on a stock turbo with bolt-ons.

+1

what he said. on the X's, a downpipe won't really do anything unless you get an 02/downpipe. With those mods that I listed you would be over 300whp with a good tune. I wouldn't get an intake or BOV yet either. I would save that money and get some springs or coilovers to get rid of the ugly wheel gap but thats up to you.

That or you could go ahead and start saving for a new clutch and new tires. Sucks but its true..
