For those who have a BOV...

Hey evom fam... I need ur help. I've been doing my research and reading up on the aftermarket BOVs we have for the X. I'm in the market for a BOV.. And I know there are other threads... But it seems like there are mixed reviews about what we currently have available. My X MR is completely 100% stock. I'm not here to build a race car... It's my daily drive and I just want the BOV sound.

My question is this..

1) for those who have an aftermarket BOV and are having NO problems at all (VTA or Recirc) what other mods do u have currently?

I'm really trying to figure out why some Xs go on limp mode and start throwing the p12** code. I know each X is unique in it's own way... But I felt like opening a new thread might shine the light on my decision.

I really don't wanna deal with the problems guys have about the BOV... What I need to know is... The guys who are having NO problems at all doing differently?

I'm new to having an Evo... So pls guys take it easy and add some lube. Hahaha thnx in advance.

If I were you i'd just keep the factory BOV. If you want the sound, just get an intake and if you recirculate the aftermarket bov, it'll be quiet just like the oem bov.

yea i'd been hearing the whole "drop a cone fileter" or "get an intake" but wat does that sound like? air getting sucked in? or air VTA? and about aftermarket being recirgulated... its not like the OEM BOV cus my buddy had it on his evo... but it is quieter.

About 4 months ago, i did the very same thing you are now doing and asked everyone else. I wanted to run an Open Circ. I ask all who were running Opens, were they having any problems. Either A) They were BSing me or B) They never Drive or Start their EVO Xs at all. I started with a TiAL BV 50 mm, then to a TiAL Q (new design) and then last, the TiAL Alpha Q which is a Re-Circ. Long story short, i am back to my Stocker.

Not only does it have to do with what other mods you are running, but can also depend where you are at Sea Level compared to the other guy. Weather can also play a part in it.

My HKS FCON will be installed the week of 9/25/09 which is when i will be going *BACK* to open PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

haha, aint nothing a lil lube cant fixx

only ricers upgrade bov's as their first mod..honestly though if u want the sound just get a cone filter and u'll be happy.
but as u said u plan on keeping it stock, retain good drivability. don't let off the gas like a 'tard just to make the bov in front of ppl, it's so ricer..and ur not driving a ricer car.

the stock bov on the evo's are great, and only need to be upgraded when the boost is turned up beyond what it is meant to handle, which is around 26psi

I currently run an open element filter I bought from Checkers for $25. Best mod I have ever done. Sounds awesome! You can hear the turbo spool and get a cute little woosh at the end.

I don't know about you, but I think I'll get annoyed from the PPPSSHHHHH sound after some time. I know it sound great and all, but time will come you want your cute lil stock BOV sound back. I know, coz where I live, there are a lot of ricers with loud *** BOVs and I don't wanna be one of them. I wanna keep my evo with the classy sound of my stock BOV that ricers can't imitate.

I have an Injen intake and uicp on my MR and can barely notice the sound from the BOV. Sure it got a little louder post intake install but nothing remotely close to the sound of a VTA BOV. I've heard a lot of people are having a lot of success with the HKS BOV VTA on the MR's and beleive a tune will sort out any problems you will have down the road when you mod the vehicle more.

I can understand you are excited about your first turbo car but changing the recirculation valve for a BOV as your first mod is just not a good idea as if anything it decreases performance on a stock car or even mildly tuned. The stock valve does it's job very well up to 26 psi and putting an aftermarket valve will do nothing but add issues as well as probably cause unwanted compressor surge which is the whole reason these cars have the valves in the first place (to protect the turbo).

I'm actually surprised that people still want to attain the fast and furious sound as it's viewed by many in the same light as a fart can muffler on a Honda, pretty lame these days.
