HELP: Some rattling noise

My EVO-X is making some rattling noise from the left rear (near left rear seat) especially over bumps. My mechanic has replaced suspension, shocks, control arms..etc (see below list) from another EVO-X but did not seem to cure the problem. Does anyone know what my problem maybe? AYC?? Thanks.

My mechanic has replaced and checked the following items:

CHECK OIL REAR DIFFERENTIAL MECHANISM PART
CHECK OIL TORQUE TRANSFER MECHANISM PART

Change to test (L side)
Rear Wheel hub
Control link
Trailing arm
lower arm
Suspension set (shock & coil) L/R
Wheel (L/R)

Remove rear hand brake pad (L side)
Remove rear stabilizer & link

Could it have been as simple as a window rattling?

^ +1 That or some plastic interior panels rattling. In other cars, I've even had wiring behind the interior panels vibrating against them. If you haven't ruled out the interior yet, might wanna have a friend ride in the back and push on different panels.

Could be a hidden bag of change...my dad used to work for a dealer and he said guys at the factory would hide bags of change in obscure places in the car. They would leave a little note on them asking how long it took to find it.

Bro, I had the same noise like yours, I can reproduce it only at times, like slowing down, I suspect it is the car ABS or AYC.... Mine is SST, so when this happen it is only at very slow speed like <50 km/h... also I notice that the gear at this speed is like fifth gear, so i pressume it is a low speed high gear teething sound...

But still please post it here if you can narrow down the sound.. that would be great...

The sound is like metal to metal very soft, vibrating towards each other.. correct? Normal driving I do not have this sound...

One more thing i think you missed out, the exhaust muffer on top of that is a thin sheet of aluminium, try taking that out!!! I took out that, still got sound... maybe it will work for u..

So I guess should be normal, since you are not the only one.

Cheers.

Another owner on here had a rattling/thumping sound and it turned out the bolts on the front strut brace on the car were loose (and he said it sounded like it was coming from the rear of the car!).

That's an easy check for you to do. Just toss a wrench on those bolts.

I have the same rattling coming from the rear side under the car... It happens when I park in my garage at very low speed (under 5 km/h). Often it's when I start backing my car. It's not doing it every time do... I hope it's nothing major put just **** me off that I can't find what it is...

I tried the rear sway bar but nothing is losse.

It's the FRONT strut brace, not the rear sway bar, even though it sounds like it's coming from the rear.

I had this at first with an aftermarket exhaust, and it was really bad.

It turned out to be the heat shield that sits just above the muffler. Remove that sucker and see if it goes away.

Na... That's not the sound that I hear from my car... I know what you are talking about... I had a losse bolt on the turbo shield and that's now fix!

The sound that I ear is more a metal thing... Strut bar or sway bar or suspension would sound closer to what I ear...

Thanks anyway man.

Hi Simon,

I think I found my problem...

I found that when I press brake padel and release, then subsequently the sound will come... recently i changed my brake pad.. I can reproduce the problem... So now, I am more relax that it is a brake pad sound...

Let me know if you have found your problem...

Dennis
