Cures for dull engine sound?

I got my X MR 10 days ago. While I am generally quite happy with it, one thing that bothers me is the extremely dull and tasteless engine sound. I remember reading that it "sounded like a vacuum cleaner" in one of UK magazines but I didn't think it was important. Now that I am using it I want to cure this problem quickly.

Can you tell what can contribute to a better engine sound specifically I am asking about better sounding exhaust kits and intakes. I am hoping this will also give some more power to the engine because it doesn't feel like 300 horses at all.

PS: My previous car VW GTI with 300hp at the crank was able to sprint 100-200kmh in 12.5 seconds. Evo can only manage about 17 seconds. Huge difference for a similar powered car (I know there is a 150kg weight difference and FWD/AWD losses)

Most any intake (or drop in filter) will change the sound of the turbo, drastically. I'm using the Buschur intake + MAF pipe, and it sounds all sorts of awesome.

Exhaust wise, there's tons of choices. Buschur Bullet here, and it sounds damn mean, compared to stock. Lots of variation from brands, though, so it's mostly a "pick what you like" game.

Well, a GTI with 300hp also had to be fairly heavily modified, right? The power curve of it was probably all sorts of amusing, compared to a stock-tune Evo X.

Nothing a TBE (Turbo Back Exhaust) won't fix!!! Hell throw in a Racing Exhaust Manifold as well and listen to your car ROAR down the strip!

I just put in a drop-in Cosworth filter last night and it sounds WAY better, and has a considerable amount more power. It actually has a little bit of grunt to it now.

If you want a different sound, change your intake or drop-in filter. Also an aftermarket exhaust will help out.

I have to say im quite disappointed with my TBE. Im running a Invidia DP/MP combo with a Perrin CBE and its still quite quiet. Still kinda dull. I guess im just use to my FD with a full exhaust though.

Ugh, how can think the Perrin CBE is quiet? I thought it was quite loud and annoying in person. Perrin is about 30 min from here.

Personally I think its quiet, to others it may seem loud. Like I said maybe im just use to the exhaust I had on my Rx-7 which I would say was loud.

quiet is relative. the standard for "quiet" around here, i noticed, isn't held in very high regard. most exhausts, of which i consider "loud and annoying," most owners here considered "quiet," probably because at some point in their life they had a really really loud exhaust which damaged their hearing ability. i judge a "quiet" exhaust critically. if it rattles my eardrums in the slightest way, then it's not quiet at all. if my neighbors can hear it in their home, it's not quiet at all. and unfortunately most exhausts around here falls into one or the other.
