I'm a huge Rally Car fan a major driving enthusiast. I've just not seen, until now, a Rally Car cloaked in a more near-luxury sedan guise which this MR Touring seems to be.

Have you read the reviews on the SHO. It gets stellar marks in most everything except two things (1) The brakes are terrible, the pads virtually catch on fire if you take it to the track or down a mountain road - but this can be fixed with new brakes, at least new pads and some slotted or vented rotors and (2) it's HEAVY: 4,400 pounds, hence #1. My main problem with it is in my 25 years of driving, I've owned about 12 cars. My Dad has owned about 40. We have a good feel about cars and I can tell you, even though Ford is producing quality vehicles, the Taurus resale value will be ABYSMAL. Much safer in any Japanese make or a BMW. I've already taken a bath financially, not willing to add fuel to that fire buying something that will be worth less than half in 3 years.
I do understand this, and the resale value is indeed important, but in the end both cars will take a gigantic hit regardless. Right now you won't get $25k for a used 08 Evo with low mileage. In a couple of years they'll be going for under $20k. Their resale value isn't as good as people believe. Just because the IXs are up for $25k doesn't mean they sell that high.

I just can't recommend the car for you after reading this. The 2010 MR Touring changes are good but the interior is still a Lancer. It's plastic with some fake carbon fiber looking stuff on the edges. It has very few luxury features, and the "look" of the inside is nothing compared to a nice Volvo or Cadillac. The interior is why they're able to sell such a high performing car for $30k. If you're concerned at all about a luxurious interior, this simply isn't a good choice. Also, you mentioned that you rarely go 4-suitcase family trips...well even if you go on 2-suitcase trips with your wife you'll have to put them in the back seat!! My wife and I have 2 average sized suitcases and they won't go in the trunk with it totally empty, no joke. The trunk in this car is the smallest I've ever seen, period. It's laughably small.

I checked the resale value in on my a few months back and it was 29k I have 17k miles. Resale value is better than you think!

Best bang for the buck all around would be a used G37S. But it is so, "Japanese Bland". The Japanese designers are funny it's like they either error on the side of being to conservative for fear of making a car that is too radical (at least in the sedans - when you start talking 350Z, S2000, GTR, NSX, that's another story), or they error on the side of being too weird, ala Acura TL.

The TSX is WAY better looking than the TL as is the previous TL. They should have just made a larger version of the TSX as the TL. If they put 300HP and SH-AWD in the TSX, I'd be all over that although I'm not sure how it would fair as far as amenities as then how do you differentiate the two cars other than on looks - it would kill TL sales! I would be very very suprised if they put the same engine and AWD in the TSX as the TL.
Ah, didn't know the pricing, just knew it was near this range.

The G37 is bland... I agree with that.

Sorry, should've been more clear, the lowest model TL motor (250 hp I think) is the one supposedly going into the TSX SH-AWD.

I like the fact the MR, if I recall runs on regular so that means lots of potential on just an ECU tune and running on Premium (we have 92 up here in WA) The ECU flash I have now is a device I can plug into the OBDI (or whatever you call it) port and I can flash the car back to stock if I need to take it in for warranty service. Do they have that for the Evo?
That comment is full of win.

No car in your list (or near it) runs on regular... The MR will require premium 91 at minimum, probably 93 is recommended. COBB makes the AccessPort for the X that can do exactly what you described and more... And even tuning it on the gas it needs anyway will still yield a very large gain in power (I think people are getting anywhere from 40 to 80 whp just on the tune).

Good luck with getting 29k right now... Was that on KBB? KBB trade-in for my car is almost what I bought it for... Private party is 1,000 more than I bought it for, and that's with an extra 10k miles on it. Seeing as how you can (or could, but are losing the chance as more sell) get a new X for 29k (assume yours is a GSR) with 0% financing you'll have a hard time getting a few thousand less for your car with 5-6% financing.

I bought the Evo X MR Premium Package in Canada and I didn't realize that it was basically a roadmap to the 2010 MR touring until papers were signed!

Like others have said, it's basically a more grown up version of the Evo and it has features that makes it more usable on a day to day basis. All that comes with a price of added weight and until I tried a GSR, I didn't realize how much I was missing out of the title "evolution." If Canada ever decides to have the GSR with SSS package, I will definately be trading it in! The touring package features are nice, but it ultimately dulls down the car to the point where the G37S X might have been the smarter choice.

I have however, driven another member's MR Premium with the Gunzo tune and it felt like the car awoke from a long slumber. Bottom line, if you do end up getting the Evo X Touring Package, you'll definately be tempted to do minor mods and tune just to haul the extra weight around! I believe my car weighs roughly 3700lbs with my bigger bumper and steel roof. That's right, no one tells you a sunroof will cause the whole roof to be made out steel as to aluminium.

As for trunk space, I managed to fit one large suitcase into the trunk and there appeared to be room for one more, but not any more than that.

My only issue is the added weight of the sunroof. MRs are fun to take to the track and these cars already have body roll.

(2008 Evo X) I have two kids with car seats for both. I have to move my seat kind of far up to keep my child from kicking the back of the front seat. I imagine that would be the case with most cars. There is plenty of room in the back seats for sure aside from that situation. Mind you it's not our main family car since we have a Honda Oddesy too. However I use it for the kids everyday with no problems at all. The ride is as good as it gets with low profile tires. It's not a limo and I don't feel like it's a go cart either. It is a little rough on bumpy roads....but what care with low profile tires isn't. I also looked at the BMW 335ix but decided to go with the EVO for the ease of upgrading it. If I wasn't going to upgrade it much I would have gone with the BMW or a Lexis. I know the EVO is safe though...I seen some guy on here that posted his car pictures from a crash where he hit a pole head on and he said he only had bruises and scratches. The car saved his life. Also the other day someone at a gas station told me the same thing that some guy crashed bad and walked away with barely a few scratches. So saftey is there. It's just how you plan to use the car and what your goals are. If luxury and ride quality is your goal...then no..the EVO is not for you (even though in my book I love it). I feel I got more of a race type car for less going with the EVO. The other cars wanted more money for less perfomance. You pay for what your looking for...

PS. The trunk space is perfectly fine for daily use or a light trip for one or two, and grocery shopping. Are you going to be able to drive cross country with all your extended stay luggage for three or more people and the family dog? (Your probbaly not going to have enough room to get everything) One meduim to large single stroller? Yes. Two small to meduim sized totes bags? Yes. One large suit case and a small tote bag? Yes. Two large suit cases? No

I would reccomend that you take all your kids strollers and car seats and see if the fit before you buy it. Even bring a large suit case. Then you can see for yourself what works and what doesn't.
