Passenger Seat Belt Light - 08 Evo X

I noticed recently that the console light for the passenger seat belt keeps flashing when I'm driving and nobody / nothing is in the passenger seat. Has anybody else had this happen? It's a little distracting since it will stay on for a while (supposed to be off when nobody is sitting in the seat?) and then flashes 3 or 4 times every minute or so.

Is there something wrong with the weight sensor under the seat, and it thinks someone is sitting there with no seat belt on?

I don't remember mine beeping for the passenger, turns on then shuts off. Don't think the sensor for the airbag in the passenger side affects the seat belt light but I might be wrong. Unless the seat is sensing something and think that someone's there. If it's annoying and you're still warranted take it to the dealership.

your weight sensor might be "stuck" this has happened to me before just sit in the seat and get out of it and see if it resets it i had to try something similar to this to "reset" it.

Mine works pretty quickly. When I put my laptop bag on the seat (about 12 pounds), it detects a passenger. So it's pretty sensitive. Haven't ever seen mine do this though, so I'd talk to the dealer.

I thought it started after I had repositioned the passenger seat with the car on and the seat empty. I had thought that maybe the seat position hadn't locked and the sensor was vibrating or something, so I sat in the seat and readjusted it. The car was off when I did this though. I will try sitting in the seat when the car is on and see if I can un-stick the sensor. Otherwise it's going to the dealer under warranty.

Maybe give the seat a few nice hits with your fist? Meh, who knows.

Maybe one of the mechanics has a calibrated rear-end .

I'm an electrical engineer. Just knowing that it's under there blinking away will drive me nuts. Plus, not letting the red light escape could cause it to build up and explode violently.

If I get it to stop blinking, I'll post an update.

[EDIT] Sitting in the seat and fastening the belt while the car was on didn't do anything. I looked under the seat and all that's there are a couple wire harnesses and maybe a control box on the floor. I'm sure what happened is that, after some use, the seat has sagged a bit and is tripping the sensor. I'll probably have to have the dealer look at it.

I fiddled around with the seat a few days ago. I could easily see that when I pushed up on the bottom of the seat, or pulled up on the front of the seat (the padded overhang) that the sensor would go off. A little pressure on the seating surface would turn the light back on and it would stay on until I forced it to turn off. I left it in the off state by simply pulling up a bit on the padded overhang in the front. The next trip was with another person so the seat had normal seat inputs. The next time I drove alone, the seat belt light stayed off.

Hopefully, it will stay off. The simple fix is to lightly pull up on the padded front overhand of the Recaro seat and the light should turn off. Having a passenger sit in the seat for a drive might also allow the sensor to recalibrate, but I am not sure of this.
