Creaking Dash Noise, Grrr.

Hi All,

I've got this annoying intermitten noise I can't seem to track down. It sounds like a "creeeeek" coming from the passenger dash area and at other times like a small loose part shifting in the glovebox. Yesterday over some road construction, it sounded like a couple pieces of stryofoam rubbing together! It mainly occurs upon slight accel/deccel at very slow speeds.

It doesn't seem to be the typical glovebox rattle as it remains even with the box open and empty. From what I've read here there's a window rattle dealer fix but this doesn't sound like its coming from that area. Whats odd is that it's non existent on my daily morning commute and then home for lunch. Then on the return trip, it's back... every time.

Anybody experience this and FIX it? And yes, I know Evos rattle.

Thanks.

I've got that one. And one in the back, and another one on the driver's side, and another one from the glove box and another one from the passenger seat, and another one....

But seriously, I have that one. Sounds like it's behind the glove box...

I had this in mine as well. I went postal trying to figure it out. I know the chrome strip on the dash makes a lot of noise as well.

That's the performance gnome that lives behind the glove box. Mitsubishi pairs a performance gnome to each Evo engine block that rolls off the production line. You can remove him, but he'll be angry and you might lose a finger.

I also have the same noise. Sounds like one of those cheap styrofoam coolers bouncing around.

If the gnome is removed, I suppose I'll need a re-tune.

I was hearing the same squeak from passenger side dash area. or glove box- right from the get go. I have 1200km on th car now and it has become intermittant.
Maybe it will disappear altogether soon.

Dash break-in?

This is on a 2010 GSR.

I had this exact same sound. Mine happened when it was cold out, but not when it was warm - say during summer. After 2 dealer trips they finally pulled the front windshield out and found that there were several "alignment" tabs that were supposed to be removed during the windshield installation that were rubbing the frame. They removed the tabs, replaced the oe windshield and all has been well since. Getting to pull the windshield took a lot of arm twisting and a few dealership visits *****ing about the same problem. Good Luck.

It's sad because I owned a 2009 Lancer GTS for about a year, that I traded in for my Evo. That car was SO prefect in every way. Quiet, no rattles, no issues like that at all. I jump into my Evo, and I hear everything rattling like it's a different car, even though it's identical. I just don't get it.

when the weather got cold, and i turn the radio on, even the tiniest bass from someone's voice (i listen to talk radio) will create a rattling in my passenger door. it still did it in the summer, but it was a lower freq vibration that i could tune out. now it's like a high freq rattling that is so anoying. anytime a man talks, the little bass in his voice sets off the rattling. and the volume is low, like 10-12 on stock oem radio/speakers (no rockford fosgate)

annoying the **** out of me. gonna take into dealer next week.

cause the suspension is tighter and rougher so interior parts vibrate more and come loose easier
