I've had my SS for 2 years now. Great car. 45k miles. Replaced the stock clutch for a monster, and it has a few addons like borla exhaust and intake and smaller crank pulley. 6 speed manual, T-tops great tires.
This car is my daily driver. When I do go out to play. I don't go out to drag strips, or go hunting down teenagers in their civics with fart pipes to make any kind of point. I go out to the mountains and try to keep the RPMs up high enough for me to not get bored.
I love driving. I love this car. I love V8 growl and low end torque when I need to just pass around someone and how furious it sounds when closing in on 6k. I love the T-tops, and I love look.
Here's what I'm starting to dislike. My daily driver is a V8 rear wheel drive car that only likes dry roads, with no holes. This car beats me to death, and punishes me for gassing it too hard during sub-prime conditions. Snow = impossible. It's over 10 years old and more and more will have to be replaced on it to keep the condition up. It has no warranty. The massive doors keep me searching for parking spaces further away from my destination. I have bad knees and driving this thing through daily stop and go DC traffic is starting to really hurt. There is no comfort in this thing unless you're the driver, doing 80, with the cruise control on, every other ride is just miserable.
My brother owned a 3000gt vr4 and swears I would love driving a 4 wheel drive turbo charged car. Another friend of mine owns a 2006 Evo we some great quility work done to it and tells me how livable it is with 400+ awhp.
I feel like i would enjoy stepping in to a new car. With normal sized doors. Comfy interior. Warranty, new gadgets to play with (I love tech) and then have a blast up in the mountains. I won't be terrified to drive in the rain. And the new MR with is twin clutch paddle shifting will save me the joint pains but still feel sporty.
I'd like to know if any of y'all have moved from a V8 Rear wheel daily driver sports car to an Evo X and what your thoughts were. What you missed about your old car. And what you love about your evo.
thanks much!!

+1^^^^, but I will say that I came from a two wheel drive car while it may not be rwd or a v8 I only had traction in the dry weather. I was always scared to gas it in corners because I would get no traction, that being said I switched to my evo 8 and have not looked back since! The all wheel drive is amazing and the handling on wet pavement is great! My best friend has the new mr with bolt-ons and a tune and honestly If you had to have the sst tranny you would not regret it unless you waned to make alot of power.
I still have a 99 Z28 LS1, 6 speed. Hot cams, Borla, etc; still a fun car. V8 POWWAAAHHH etc etc
The power curve differences between my GSR and the Camaro is... well, there's no comparison. One is a 5.7L V8 beast of war, one is a high strung, high RPM ***** who loves getting railed on.
If you're willing to work for your RPMs, though, the Evo is far and away better in every aspect. It's faster, it's more comfortable, it handles immensely better, it's just better, period. Even the hardest of hard core LS1 fans would never deny it; one's a 40k rice rocket, one's a 20k, decade old behemoth of GM engineering.

I also owned 2 ls1 f-bodys a 99 z28 and 01 ss convertible. as well as a x gsr... dont buy a mr you will be wasting your time. the gsr is better suited for modding (safely) to get the bigger tq numbers. the driving experiance is night and day different but both platforms are a blast to drive, on that note though i would never go back to the f-body from the evo, the evo is better in every way other than low rpm brute force tq but build up the rpms a little and your golden.

although i did not have a ta or a camaro - I had several high horse rwd cars - mint 86 mustang gt fully built with 450-500 horse. fully built engine with kenny bell super charger and a 1999 mustang gt with a supercharger and a bunch of other things. although I don't have a X i will tell you this, JUST DO IT
When you can take off from a dead stop with over 350 wheel to all 4 wheels and go straight and not even worry about it, thats nutz......
the MR can handle quite a few upgrades - I think most of which it will safely handle pretty easy....
The handling between a rwd platform like the mustangs and camaro's to the evo is BEYOND a night and day difference.... even driving a stock evo to a modded rwd with suspension work, the evo is just sooo nimble it would really drive circles around it.
good luck with your choice - not really a choice, just a matter of when you buy the evo

See sig. I also owned a 2002 Camaro with heads, cams. LT's and so on. I love my EVO. Car is just so fun anywhere. Rain, snow, dry this car is amazingly fun. I dont think you will be dissapointed. The only problem is stock they suck. I was so dissapointed with the stock power I almost did not buy this car. But I took a shot and I am glad I did. Get a tune, exhaust, intake and some E85 and you have stock C5 Z06 power with all wheel drive. I love this car. Next step bigger turbo. I need to beat my last Z06 power levels.

I went from a Lexus LS430 (not hot rod by any stretch, but a v8 good for 14's), and what i do miss is the low end torque. But, it ends there. Evo's are insane. I've owned a WRX, WRX STi, FD RX7, and still own an R32 skyline, and i'd take the evo again any day. And 20+ mpg!
I would probably be singing a slightly different tune if i had come from a Z06 background.

I have a 2002 WS6 T/A with 400whp and although the TA is faster, my Evo is way more fun to drive. I will say the T/A is more fun if you are just looking to do straight line racing but anything else the Evo hands down wins. You will be disappointed with the stock power of the Evo but just do a simple turbo back exhaust, intake and Cobb Accsess port with a stage 2 tune and you will be happier with the car and it will actually run better than it did in stock form. All of that will run you about $1,800-$2,000 and will take you to around 300awhp which is livable and if you decided to go with all the rest of the bolt-ons (bigger intercooler, hard charge pipes and a custom tune) you could push the car to around 340-350whp and I can tell you from my own experience it is going to be faster than a 400whp rear wheel drive car for the average driver just because of how much more grip you are going to have. And I feel 100x safer on sketchy highways in my Evo than I did in the Trans Am.
I hope this helps and I think you will be more than happy with going to an Evo X.

Thanks for the input all. I notice a lot of people suggesting the GSR, but I'm not a heavy modder, I do mostly bolt ons to keep it better than stock but easy on the wallet and livable. The MR sounds like it will work best for me because my clutching days seem to be dwindling until I get some new knee mods.
I can't wait to start test driving them in the spring time. It'll be nice when the last thing I'll worry about is what color I want
Also I love subbies, the 06's really appeal to me. I'll have to give them a shot so I'm not putting Evo blinders on.
