the electric motor will be an upgraded version of the 63 hp permanent magnet synchronous motor used in the i-MiEV, and the 2.0 litre MIVEC gas engine is expected to generate around 320 hp. Depending on how Mitsubishi manages the power flow between the two, the Evo XI could effectively have up to 350 hp on tap.
Not sure what to think... mostly due track performance. Fresh battery, this sounds great, you have 350Hp but what happens after 20 mins when the electric motor battery gets used up at a track from being WOT most of the time? You are back down to the claimed 320 with all the extra weight of dead batteries? That just sounds like the end of the EVO being a great balance of daily driver and weekend warrior for many. With the electric motor supposedly being 63hp+, their math just makes no sense to me either.

Sounds ok for a daily driver....

the electric motor makes all the torque at stall speed thru a range of fairly low speeds. The gas engine isn't making max power until 6500 rpm or whatever so the effective power is not simple addition. the 60 hp electric will give 30 hp at higher speeds. I'm sure this would make sense if you saw both dyno curves.

Hybrid technology in an Evo...no thank you.

The 2010 Xs are getting to 60 in 4.7 range in tests.
So they are speculating 350HP with a 4.6 sec. 0-60 time?
Well, I'm speculating that the evo going to become a fat hybrid pig.

technologies are advancing ladies and gentlemen's, the battery's are not that heavy anymore, and they last a lot longer.
But the main thing is , no lag , max power from 0 rpm to up to the red line, no fuel starvation etc.

be open minded and dont forget back in time when Rockefeller and friends didn't ruin the manufacturer developments , the electric car was faster and did run longer then a gas variant.
Fact there was a time when more electric car was on the road then gas.

how long you can block the evolution with money and selfish interest?

I have nothing against electric technology, I actually have a keen interest in it and like it. I like the evolution. I think it is great for a daily driver, but raising concern (based on this article only) that this hybrid technology may not make the best weekend track car anymore... in terms of having consistent performance the entire day beating up on it vs just 3 hot laps or something - know what I mean?

I agree, it is all speculation at this point of course...

I saw a vid on Top Gear of Tesla roadster where the electric motor on the track quickly over heated. I also remember the auto mags hype of a 320+ hp X
