First serious problem with the X

I gave my car wide open throttle last night and the "Service Required!" light came on. It always does this at WOT. I talked to AMS and was told it's a Over Boost issue or something wrong with the Diffs. I have a HKS SSQ BOV, AMS down pipe, test pipe, and single tip exhaust, Injen intake. Has anybody had this happen to them? What was it? Any ideas? I plan to go back to stock other then the down pipe and go to the dealer, Perhaps its time for a dyno tune?

You need a tune. The intake and exhaust parts are sucking in / letting out way too much air, let alone the cold temps that are outside this time of year. The car is programmed to only see a certain amount of air through the MAF, and you increased that with those parts, so it is causing an over boost situation. Go get a tune and see if that fixes things, it should. Don't take it to the dealership, because even if you change everything but the down pipe back to stock they will void the warranty and say it is the DP causing the issue (which it most likely is).

Get a tune, it should fix it, and you should see some power gains.

Good luck

Are you getting a service engine soon light as well?

If so, its a really easy fix. The check engine light is actually causing the "service required". It is exacerbated by cold weather. Basically, when they tune your car, make sure you get the DTC disable. If you are getting a CEL, I'd lay money it is P1241.

Hope this helps, take care.

Well, I have a servise engine soon but the only code popping up as far I know( I checked it a month ago) is for the CO2 sensor(I don't have cat). I have read about disabling the DTC but then I have no traction control right? AMS should be able to fix all of this right? Because I was planning on a tune anyway and The only reason I would take it to the dealer was to make sure that there isnt a serious diff problem, and that is what im worried about. But Ive had these mods for 2 months now, why would the light come on in such a long time?

Thanks for all the advice by the way.

This. If the weather has gotten significantly colder outside as of late, it could help cause the situation. Take it to AMS, they can cover all your needs, and probably will be more knowledgeable than the people at your local .

Good luck!

you have quite a bit of mods for no tuning. get a tune and it'll fix it or go back to stock - it'll fix it as well.

DTCs off will not touch your traction control. I had the exact same issue even with a tune in the cold. Basically, if you are throwing a P1241 code, that code is what is making the service required pop up. Mine could say Check, service required, and then ASC off, and I had to limp the car home or restart. If its not doing that, its a slightly different problem.

Whatever it is, DTCs off should help. It sounds easy to trigger. I definitely think you should book an appointment with AMS. Your car is not set to those mods, and it will flat out fly after the tune. A bonus is they can figure out what is causing the problem and disable it!

Actually, I didn't see that BOV. Just tell AMS to disable DTCs with the tune. 99% chance they can fix it and Mitsu won't have to even get involved.

Also, just out of curiosity, what numbers can I expect after the dyno tune from AMS. Like I said before I have the Injen intake and top intercooler pipe, AMS test pipe, AMS downpipe, and AMS single tip exhaust.

~340-350whp would be my guess on a Dynojet.

as just reading through this i would recommend taking off the ssqv bov. i dont have any specific quotes but i have read about people having problem with them and causing cel the traction control to kick. if u hit 22ish lbs of boost the car on factory tune may go into limp mode.

Yea I have read about problems with aftermarket bov's too but my car never bogged down like that. The ricer within me decided to put that on, I got the newest version of that BOV for very cheap so I had to get it(from what I was told at AMS its the only one that wont leak). And I cant lie, I've always loved that sound. Hopefully the tune will fix that issue

Noize, Dynojet is the one that gives the lower HP ratings and Mustang dynos' give higher numbers right?
