Cold Weather Starting

Has anyone else heard a weird noise out of the engine when starting in cold weather (talking like mid 20's)? Almost sounds like a belt screech. It goes away after the car warms up. So over this winter...

2008 MR...only mod is a HKS drop in filter...

Mine makes all kinds of weird noises. It's been under 30-degrees since I've had the car, so hard to say if it's weather-related or not.

Everyone usually says that Evo noises are normal, but if it bothers you, take it to the dealer to get checked out.

ETA: And maybe swap back your OEM air filter if you go to the dealership, so they don't blacklist you for having crazy racing mods, lol. =)

Evos make weird noises, but I've never heard of belt screeching being normal... take it to the dealer and have them check it out if you're worried about it... it's not like you've got anything to hide.

Serpentine belt slipping? At least I had that problem in another car, non-evo.

i believe from what has been posted on this noise, its the SST tranny.. I believe every RA and MR's get this at low temps when the car is warming up.

I've heard the occasional clunk when starting in sub 20* F weather if the car has been sitting outside. Sounds like oil isn't protecting everything for the first second of cranking and then all is well... still it's unsettling though.

Mine as well. It sounds like a high pitch whine/squeal on start up, then give it about 5 seconds or so and it goes away.
