Modding for power gains on a budget.....

What is the cheapest way to add another 70-100 hp on a completely stock gsr with only current mods being a Cobb AP stg I tune? I've done research on the forums as well as consulted major shops to gather opinions. The opinions have varied greatly. I would like to generate a list of mods that will give significant gains for the money and eliminate those that do not. Simply said what is the cheapest way to an extra 70-100hp, nitrous excluded.... My current thinking is a turbo swap to either the FP Red, Blouch, or cbrd bbx. Could I see decent gains with no other supporting mods?

You'll more than likely need at least a TBE as a supporting mod for pretty much anything else.

Don't quote me on this, but I think a turbo upgrade may be in order if your trying to get +70hp AFTER a Cobb stage 1 upgrade.

Sure you could nickel and dime your way with DP, TP, CB, CAMS, but a domII might get you there easier with just a TP....

Again, don't quote me, this is off the top of my head...

A full TBE? I have heard that there aren't much in the way of gains in some of the components one of which was the DP. I have always been a believer that the cat was the biggest restriction but I was told today that the cat back was by a reputible shop, and that the cat was not that big of a restriction, I have always thought that the cat back was primarily for sound and looks while the test pipe was for gains, but I have also not tuned 100s of evo x's either....

Any other thoughts on the exhaust's biggest restriction?

Get an Intake, full 3 inch exhaust, 3 port EBC (great BC btw) intercooler core, walbro fuel pump, and a new tune. I would ditch the COBB if you ask me. But that would boost you more then 70awhp.

I've read on here that the cat is pretty restrictive. I've seen threads about people gaining up to 10 whp by replacing the cat with a straight test pipe.

And for the DP, if you get an O2 DP you'll get more gains than just a regular DP that bolts to the factor o2 housing.

You want the cheapest, reliable way to add power. Add a TBE and get it professionally tuned at a good shop. Then get used to the fact that no matter how much power you have, it's never enough.

Adding 70 after a tune is tough. If you're in a part of WI with E85 then that's a nice bang for the buck. It's around 40hp/tq. I consider the Cobb OTS tunes a bit tame...would recommend 1000cc injectors and a protune instead.

Adding a larger turbo without a number of supporting mods is tough. You'll only get half the power that you see other people get if you try to take the cheap approach--the stock injectors will not be adequate even on pump.

The stock turbo on E85 feels pretty beastly since you make more torque than hp. The stock clutch is also at the limit at this point...

Hmmmm. Right now I'm thinking TBE, 800cc injectors, and walbro 255. E85. That might get me there.
