New Evo on hold
New Evo on hold
I went to the Younker Mitsubishi on Saturday and tried to hash it out with the dealership on a new White Evo 2010 GSR. The MSRP is $34,755 (including destination charge $750) + $1,249.99 tax + $177.25 lic + $150.00 Doc = $36,332.24. I was able to get it down to $33,000.00 sales price + $327.25 Total fee/options + $980.00 sales tax = $34,307.25 Total
I am putting $5,000 down payment and trading my 370z for $23,000. I am doing 84 months at 6.99% which will be $554.28/month. Do you think this is a good deal or can I haggle the dealership to bring the price of the Evo down? Just to let you know that this is the only 2010 Evo GSR stock left in Washington where I live. I would sell the 370z privately, but the dealership just got the new evo in last week and I saw a list of all the people that are interested. I walked out saying that I would think about it and the sales person would put the Evo on hold for me.

for 84 months those payments seem high as hell...im guessing you are rolling over payments from the 370z? or did you mean 48 months?
but for the price im not sure you have a lot of negotiation power because you said there is a list of people interested. but tell them a bottom line offer and thats that.

Holy crap..... $554.28/month for SEVEN YEARS?! That works out to $46559.52 total payment. You're nuts. In my opinion, you can not afford the car.
If you meant 4 years, that's still $26605.44. That's still 4 years of over $500/month! I wouldn't do it.

I think the 84 must have been a typo of 48.Keith
PS: To the OP, do you already own your own house? It is a buyers market right now, and 550 a month into a house will work out great in the long run vs a car. If you already have a house, and steady job then go for it... I have had many cars over the years with $550 a month or more payments. My only regret is not buying a house first.
wow now i need to know what kind of jobs you guys have, i mean damn you guys making it seem like 550/month is nothing for you. but yea if you can afford it and able to continue to make payments on it for 84 months, then go for it.

8 months ago i traded in my 370z for my Evo X GSR with SSS. The sticker was 38k, i was completely upside down on my Z and new it. However, they didnt know the price of it as no one had tried trading in a Z and they didnt have enough info on what to offer me. My Z was the coupe with sport package so paid 37K for it. They actually gave me 36K for my car 7 months after i bought it. I got a 1.9% interest on a final price of 42K or so for 72mo. i got the gap insurance. I'm paying about 675/mo for about 5 1/2 more years. They're expensive cars and the X is a better all around car then the Z. If you can afford it for that long, i'd definitely say get it. I'm completely happy with the way my deal turned out.
My monthly car payment is 542.68. 60 month loan at 0%. Its been exactly 12 months and I paid off nearly 20K. I'm down to 14,xxx when the original loan was 31500. To the OP, I feel your payments for 84 months is wayyyyyyyy too long. I would pay down the Z before taking a hit on the trade.
Don't do it buddy! Thats way too long and high of a payment! This is what I recommend if you really want an Evo, sell your 370z to either dealer or private party, and hope you can not go upside down on it. Then just buy a used 2008 or 2010 ww. It will save you at least 6k or even more on a 2008. But man, 554$ at 84 months even with 0% is 46K!! Then if you put 5k down thats over 50k on a base gsr I'm assuming from the price! Thats crazy!! Wait a little while buddy. Trust me, you won't regret it. Contact a few other dealers. Call smash at south coast and see what he can do. Look around! Because that price seems crazy!!
at this part? List of people but they put the car on hold?Check out of state.

No, $46,559.52 is not a good price for an Evo X.
(plus an extra $5000 for downpayment bringing it to $51,559.52? wtf?
For reference, I put $10k down on mine from selling a previous car, then got 0% financing for 60 months at $350/mo. I paid a little over $31k out the door for my 2008 GSR when I bought it brand new last year. I was 23 years old at the time of purchase. Save your money a little more if you can't afford to pay for it properly without paying double the cost of the car in interest.
You can wait.. there are plenty of new Evo's out there waiting to be purchased. It's not like you won't find the one you are looking for when the time comes.
I impulse bought my X and have serious regrets over payments and length of loan. However I have an ace up the sleeve to get myself out whenever I've had enough. Might sell my 68 Camaro SS to pay it off and go back to school. Dont do it, I pay more than that amount and it totally zaps the fun out of the car if you're cutting it close. I was so angry at myself for doing it I pretty much neglected to even drive/wash the damn thing for a while. But I got over that luckily and am back to enjoying the car, because I gotta live with it for a while!
Edit PS: New Evos depreciate and ungodly amount. Well all cars are right now the way the market is. Got mine for $36k, all a dealer will over is like $21k or something. Private resell, locally anyways, is only around $23 I think. $15k in 2 years isnt cool.

We need more details (as others have already mentioned). At first glance, it sounds like you're getting worked over a little bit by the dealer.
Also, if you didn't provide a deposit to the dealer, don't expect them to hold it for you. A deposit is the only way to officially hold a car.
