Built 2.3 Stroker or 647 Horse stock 2.0
Built 2.3 Stroker or 647 Horse stock 2.0
Presently, I am running a stock 2.0 engine with supporting mods and am making 647 at the wheels, but do to the nature of my horse power curve the car is a dog off the line. Sitting on an engine stand in the garage I have a fully built 4b11T 2.3L stroker. Stroker has been honed to larger diameter, block has been reinforced, head ported and polished, cosworth MX-1 cams, valve springs, etc...litteraly fully built.
Here is my quandry ladies/gentlemen. One of my sponsors wants to break the 1/4 mile record with the stock block. My other 4 primary sponsors do not care which engine is used as long as the car is faster than greased lighting.
If you had the choice would you spend another 3-4 months attempting to break a record on the stock engine. Or would you switch to a fully built stroked engine likely to lay down 900whp.

900whp FTW!
Thats a tough call though... If you want the record and you already have the other motor to drop in if you destroy the stock block than I guess go for the record. If you don't feel like messing with it just drop in the 2.3l and boost away...
What does the stock block record stand at for a X anyways?

Good question, and therein lies my quandry. Do I believe that the 2.0 has the potential to break it? Damn skippy I do. Are we about to be full on into racing season? Yep. The AMS (think they sold this car to a private citizen) car laid down 10.8 app 8 days ago. EMS will be knocking on the door as soon as they drag themselves out to the track. Both of these cars are running fully built 2.0's and pushing 100whp more than I. While nothing is written in stone it is likely that one of these cars will grab the record in the next few weeks. I have no intent to build the 2.0 so I can't realisticly chase the hp numbers of these shops on the stock block. Which brings me back to the question of do I simply move onto an engine that can handle the power and get me off the line? Or do I continue to play with the stock engine and hope that I beet the industry leaders to the punch?
^ If your expecting multiple shops to be going for the same thing I would just do the swap now. You'd save yourself a lot of time, time you could be working on dialing in your new set-up.

lol I get the feeling this is going to go 50/50 right down the middle.
I have always believed that a record is a record, not really big into the idea of qualifying a record. You are definately correct that I could continue to tinker with this setup until I set the stock internal record. Or as grillpt mentioned do I swap engines now and start the arduous process of dialing in the new setup.

Gump I think you just need some more track time with your car...people have been using giant turbo's on 2.0L motor's at the strip for years and they usually have the same problem at first with trying not to bog. Hell I have this problem with my Red. Once you figure it out you will be fine, you just need a lot of practice, it aint easy to do that's for sure.
