HKS Turbo Timer question

I've been reading through the forum and found several people having trouble with the installation of the HKS turbo timer. I'm guesing that it's not plug and play like it reads on HKS websight. I saw that they make a extra harness for my 08 EVO GSR part number MT-6 that was supposed to help make the install easier. Do people really have that much trouble with the instal of a turbo timer or is it that difficult? I have a 08 EVO GSR with no factory NAV and the keyless entry package. If you can elaborate on this subject please do, because I want to get a turbo timer to help save the life of my turbo, but I want to know what you guys think before I spend the money on this part.

Have you tried calling HKS for some direction? To be honest you really don't need the TT. If the car needed one it would have came stock. Just use your judgement when driving, if you whale on the car and then park, don't shut it off right away. Let the car sit for about 30 seconds then go about your business.

I see whay your saying ZEROCOOLL21, but the Evo didn't come with a boost gauge either and some other cars come factory with that when there boosted. To answer your question. Yes! I talk to the manufactor and they said the only wires I would have to connect is the E-brake ground and one other wire. Other then that it would be plug and play. I'm just curious, since I see so many people having trouble on here installing them. Maybe they don't have any skills and can't read a schematic I don't know.

Why do you need the TT, do you really run your car that hard that you need it?

the FAST key won't lock the door with the engine running... you can get an aftermarket security system and TT i think

get the turbo time with the harness, install takes about 15 mins without sensors and maybe another 15 for rpm and speed senors if you know what your doing. could take up to an hour or 2 if you have no idea like i did.
the harness number is mt-6, it plugs right in to your ignition wiring, then you need power, ground, and e brake.
if you need more help pm me.
John

I put the Blitz DTT on my RA, easy job. Made my own harness ($6 for the plugs had wire already). Power, earth and e-brake easy to get to I had to go to BOV for Boost aswell. Give it 30mins - 1hr to complete if you've taken apart the dash before. Also Fast Key wont lock when engine running, also tried as pushing the lock button on remote at a distance but didn't lock either.

I do run it hard a litlle bit and I usually don't have time to let it sit for a few minutes to cool down. Since I have FAST key I'm not to worried about my car locking the doors since my car is in a secure area . I can always come back and hit the lock button to lock the doors.

As far as the TT goes I'm pretty good at installing gauges and such, but it worried me seeing people put down the TT. I'm guessing the ones who put it down maybe GRANNIE there car or have alot of time to sit there and let it cool down. What ever the case maybe.

I was going to get the harness MT-6 to aide in the install with it and I'll reread the DIY on here again to familarize myself with the install.

because majority of the people have no real need for a boost gauge. in stock configuration what information do you need so badly from it. itll never change unless you change it

If you're going to drive hard then need to park and go, you could try easing up on the driving as you get closer to your destination. Stay out of boost for the last min or two then give it about 30 seconds before you turn it off.

You wont always be parking in a safe spot so leaving your car unlocked and coming back to lock it wouldn't be the smartest thing. You'll end up having to wait for the TT to shut off so you can lock it. I'd rethink you're driving habits and invest the money into something you'll get more enjoyment out of.

That being said, is the only thing you need to find is ebrake wire and the "other wire"? Can you post a picture of the schematic, visual guides always work best

Please hear me out on this dont get the HKS TT its way too brite and it makes the loudest most annoying beeping sound you ever herd. The extra features like the shift light and 1/4 mile calcualtor or what ever are useless. I have one and i hate it. Get a simpler one that you can hide some were so you dont have to look at it. You are definatally gunna get a kick outta all the cute girls that will come up to you and tell you your car is still runing.
