Dynos are nice, Drag Racing is cool, but what about a Road Course?

While the Dyno and Drag Racing forums are highly trafficed, it seems that not everyone visits the "Competition > Motor Sports" subforums. In case you are curious how an Evo X does around a high speed, high horsepower track with lots of elevation changes, I posted a writeup and some videos here:

The coolest!

Just kidding around, but yeah I read the motorsports section a lot and saw your thread. Looks like a lot of fun, especially going to a track where nascar runs too. Looks like even more fun in your car with all your mods. Mine is still pretty much stock But still a lot of fun Off to Willow Springs in 2 weeks...

And a quick question: Are you sponsored by Tirerack? Or is that banner still there from the One Lap competition?

Heh, was still there from the Onelap since I needed to do some photo shoots for a few sponsors. Even a stock car can be a ton of fun, my friend Steve in his near stock Evo X (black one) just has a safe tune done by me since he has no wideband and managed 2:25 map times with smooth driving, maybe a few seconds faster with a clear lap which is pretty darn good considering at most he has 350 crank HP. You'll have a blast at Willow Springs, take some video of the runs if you can since it helps quite a bit to analyze where you can improve for next time.

It's a total blast, while I like drag racing and used to auto-x a few years back, road racing is where the excitement is for me now. The Evo X is just so easy to drive at or near the limits and has such great potential it's just hard to resist. I encourage anyone that has any interest at all to set aside some time and money to do a track day somewhere as you will learn a ton about how the car handles at higher speeds. It could even help you avoid an accident when driving on the highway since knowing what to do without even thinking about it is what helps you avoid the moron who screwed up in front of you.

yes sir my thoughts exactly. I want to get into track racing or just driving, but nothing remotely close to me at the moment.

I thought I ran across a good website that kept track of all the road courses around the country so you could see what is nearby (~8hrs or less). I'll post if I stumble on it again or if anyone knows of such a site, by all means reply as well.

word!

I did an evolution with regard to racing. Started out drag racing in 2000. Did that for about 7 years until I finally reached my goal of a 9 second pass. Retired from that and did my first autox in '08. I got hooked quickly on those and was going every chance I had. Did my first HPDE a couple weeks after my first autox and really loved it. I've been an addict looking for a fix ever since.

the hardest part is getting people to try it once. thats usually all it takes to get'em hooked.

Using the EVO for what it was built for.. Nice work.. I happen to much prefer driving a highspeed track then drag racing any day!!!

Don't worry I am lurking around everywhere. Always a blast running with the PCA group. If anybody else wants to come out, there is a session in the fall to sign up for.

It doesn't hurt when I can take a relatively stock car and pass almost everything on the track. While you have a healthy head start on the upgrades, it won't take much more for me to keep your mirrors busy.

For the record, I think I get some sort of prize for "stretching" the early break in period for the car, while on the track. First laps around Watkins Glen were 3 days after I picked up the car. The car might have more track time than road time, since it hibernates in the winter.
