2017 STU Discussion!

STU 2017: Now with more boost. Maybe.

If you're unfamiliar with STU builds, the best place to start reading would be Jim3142's excellent build thread here. Jim3142's parts list is a great checklist for a competitive STU Evo build. There are differing opinions on optimal spring and bar rates, so you'll also want to read through past year's STU discussion threads as well.

I believe allowing boost level increase/modification is proposed for 2018, too late for 2017, along with attempting to limit octane again(limit of 95 if my memory is correct). I highly recommend voicing your opinions about both of these to the SEB if you have not done so all ready.

Thanks for sharing your build info as well Jim!

Thanks for the kind words

Off the top of my head, 4wd4me and Butt Dyno both had very informative build/progress threads as well:

On another note, it looks like the Hankook RS4 is arriving around mid-March, TireRack's tread width measurements for the 265/35/18 show it to be 0.2" wider than the RE71R in the same size, but also 0.2" shorter overall - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....32XL&tab=Specs

Looking forward to grabbing a set to try

The proposals wouldn't kick in until the 2018 season.

2017 is probably an off year for me - just not going to have any sort of time to devote to the cones. I put a real battery back in the car and will probably put the OEM seats back in for this year and drive it around like a normal car (er "normal"). I'll be rooting for everyone here from ustream

Also, it looks like the updated Rival S (version 1.5) is starting to become available: https://philstireservice.com/shop/bfg-g-force-rival-s/

Curious to see if the update has made the tire noticeably faster over the original Rival S, as it's supposed to have improved steering feel and turn-in. My set of 255/40/17 Rival S's have 35 runs on them so far, may look to try these when mine are done.

pricey compared to re71rs even..

hate these kinds of questions, but, going from OEM 17x8s on 245/45-17s to weds 17x9.5 & 255/40-17s - how much time should I pick up on a 50s course? I'm expecting a net gain in understeer - most likely I'll crank the rear sway bar from soft to mid or stiff. already have a tanabe FSB - anything else I should do here?

Why would you gain understeer? The car should have a bit more grip, better steering response, and handle direction change better. Those 245/45's are a tall, squishy, tire..

thought I read from somewhere the car gets pretty pushy going to wider tires - hey, hopefully not!

Nice! You're going to love the way it transforms the look of the car.

Blasphemy. That's the first time I've ever heard anyone say they don't like how TC105Ns look.

figure I'd post here as well - the 17x9.5 weds are on and mounted with 255/40-17s! it's an odd look with them filling up the rears and yet a ton of space left in the front. how does the travel look in the rear? I'm going to get the fenders rolled, and hopefully doesn't need a pull. there's some preload on there now so it should be enough space not to compress too much even in drastic scenarios, and the fender roll should give it clearance if it does.

it'll be re-aligned and corner balanced with these wheels/tires, going to ask him to adjust by decreasing preload (lowering) the fronts to even it out a little, and then make sure alignment specs are -1.6 camber in the rear. thoughts?

Is preload not a separate adjustment from ride height on your coilovers?
