Year 2 of my STU build! If you're reading this and building an STU car, my #1 piece of advice to you is to do the rear differential mod first:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...y-factory.html

It's a huge difference, should be free or cheap, and might affect how you set up the rest of the car.

I'm planning on the Meadowlands Tour for sure. Dunno about Peru/Nats yet, it's going to depend on how well I match up against Josh + Shane locally.

Looking forward to another year in this thing... most fun car I have owned so far.

Congrats on your car getting into the SportsCar mag calendar. Mine's in the Evom calendar. We hope to hit a couple of Pros this year.

Nice to see Robi in the calendar Mikkos.!!!

I have a few STU specific questions

1. Can I builld/install a heat shield to make a wall between the air filter and engine bay. I know you can't cut holes or do ducting of any kind.
2. The seat weight allowance of 25#, is that including the sliders and the mounting base that bolts to the floor pan.
3. I'm going to order a set of caster plates from Rick when they are ready to ship. Currently my stock caster is 3.7 degrees. Any suggestions on where to set the new ones at.

Thanks
Chris M

1) I believe so, as long as you don't violate any rules adding the heatshield. I know my K&N intake on my WRX came with one out of the box.
2) 14.2.B
B. The driver and front passenger seats may be replaced, with the following restrictions: The seating surface must be fully upholstered.
The top of the seat, or an attached headrest, may not be below the
center of the driver’s head. The seat, including mounting hardware,
must weigh at least 25 pounds and must be attached using the OE
body mounting holes/studs. Additional mounting points may be added.
3) As much as you can get, IMHO I think my car is around +5 with them. Great pieces!

I'm in for another season in one of the few remaining VIIIs, trying not to think about how much power I could be down compared to the IXs. Hoping my job's travel schedule works out and I can make the San Diego tour and El Toro pro at the very least. Going to try to make it to nationals again but I don't know if it'll be in the Evo or codriving something else.

Thanks Adding caster was the main reason we started making our plates, since no one else offered them. I think everyone in this thread has them, or is planning on ordering them, so they must have some benefit!

Sorry, I'll fix my post. I forgot about the adjustment as mine have never seen anything other than max caster

Hey Rick, where's this Evom calendar you speak of?

Looks like we might be able to make the San Diego tour and El Toro, if it works out, it's going to be awesome!

It's the 2012 Evolutionm charity calendar:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ndar-here.html
They don't make it easy top find!

It will be fun racing you guys out here in spring.

Ok I just did the rear diff mod, mostly because I had the whole rear apart to put in Works bushings. Little suprise the plates and discs were stacked in the quiet USDM way, restacked the order according to the TSB.

Also if you follow the fsm, it says to pull the diff side bearing, that step is not needed, don''t ask lol. Very helpful to have an extra set of hands when setting the diff back into the case. Other than that pretty straight forward work.

I'm in for the season. Mostly local stuff for me. Just don't have the time to go to the big events.

AND..

I *just* noticed the change to 14.6. Subtle .. but important use of the word 'weight' (used to just have dimensions)
There's some money that I won't get back.
Grr.. takebacks

I'm looking at the draft 2012 rules here and I don't see anything about rotor weight - am I missing something?

http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/...raft_1-12r.pdf
. Non-standard brake rotors may be used provided they are of equal
or larger dimensions (diameter and thickness) and made of ferrous
material (e.g. iron). Thickness includes the individual plates of a
vented rotor, as well as the overall dimension. The diameter for re-
placement rotors is measured at the minimum outside dimension.
Aluminum rotor hats are allowed. Cars originally equipped with solid
(non-vented) rotors may utilize vented rotors. Cross-drilled and/or
slotted brake rotors may be ftted provided all such voids are within
the disc area, and comprise no more than 10% of that area. Brake
calipers and mounting brackets may be replaced provided they bolt
to the standard locations and the number of pistons is equal to or
greater than standard. A functioning emergency brake of the same
type, operation, and actuation as OE must be present. Drum brakes
may be replaced with disc brakes of a diameter equal to or greater
than the inside diameter of the standard drum. Such conversions
must be bolted, not welded, to the axle/trailing arm/upright, and must
include an integral, redundant emergency brake. Changes to back-
ing plates/dust shields/brake lines to accommodate these changes
are permitted but may serve no other purpose.

Oh man. You made my day.

What the heck was I looking at?
This:
http://www.scca.com/documents/2011%2...04-25-2011.pdf

I have no idea when that was published.

Where did you find the 2012 draft?

You mean you had problems finding something on scca.com? Unpossible!

I went to Solo then "cars and rules":
http://www.scca.com/solo/content.cfm?cid=44517

Just don't try to use it to find old results...
