2017 STU Discussion!
Yep, the ohlins car was doing it, and I believe the MSC double evox car metioned it as well. Both members on here. It was more so when the car was on high slip angles. It caught and let go and caught and let go. Almost seemed like a diff issue honestly.
re: pogoing, could it be too much preload? I had a situation like this in my car but I can't remember if it was preload or rebound - I think the former, because I run more clicks now and have less pogoing
you mentioned the illegal tires - just want to confirm, for awd the widest we can go is 9.5 right?

11 width is the limit. 2wd is limited to 285, awd to 265.
The car is loading up with grip, then the shock can hold the spring compressed, so the spring unloads the car and lets the grip go away, this then repeats.
I had this issue with the cheapo coilovers I took off my car. Went away when I put the ohlins on. Quite possible you don't have enough damping, especially in the rear. Are the dampers valved appropriately for the springs you're running?

They are valved for the rates and we ran them a little over half stiff. The baller shocks were doing it as well from what I saw and was told. In all honesty, they weren't driven as aggressive as my car was though so I can't really compare. A nationally prepped ssm sti kept doing this until he swapped front and rear diffs.
I was thinking it might be the nature of the diff if I go three wheeling OR I was hitting the bump stops and jacking back and forth. I really didn't have time to dial anything in. This weekend I wont have a codriver so ill just go extreme soft and stiff to see if it makes difference.
It happened around 1 turn for all 3 drivers. I barely felt it around another turn (ironically both lefts) but my codriver had it happens a lot more. If you look at the last video and fast forward to 1:11 where he has his quick run, he gets all sorts of crossed up and hops around during the end of the first slalom, pretty violent. I never personally experienced it to that extent.
Tires are just another spring in series with main springs. The bigger the main spring the bigger the spring effect of tire. It can work just fine running high rates, but you cant also have bad roll centers to go with it. If you're hopping and dont want to drop the rates then raise the front up.
Its definitely a hard thing to fully understand all the variables but I know I run slightly less spring rates than even some of the STU guys, I run lower ride heights, but have good front roll centers. I dont get hop anymore. My car, if overdriven, is slidey not hoppy.
