Well, it really depends. In most situations, your statement is correct.

But, what if he got 0% financing? If so, the smart money decision is to finance the entire purchase because it's not costing you anything to borrow the money.

Mitsu had 0% for 60 months available on the Evo X for the first half of 2009. I bought my Evo X with the 0% for 60 deal.

either you have to much money (or are in serious debt) or to much time... possibly both. I will say this, it will likely sound bad, but I myself have experienced it... you have OCD.. and i'm really not kidding about that. If you really want help, get a therapist and talk to them about some sort of SSRI (Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac, etc) and you will see GREAT improvement in this decisions and how less often you change your mind.

*edit* this post was not meant to be offensive in any way... just letting you know.

I do have 0% financing on the X. I don't have anything on credit cards.

I put 5k down on the car...just to lower payment. So I pay 475 a month. Mine has sss and aero, so I financed 28,500.

I owe like 24 or so...haven't checked recently.

If I did decide to sell it...I'm sure I could get several grand back from selling mods and more than I owe...

Just not sure...i think ill put the X up for sale and see if anyone bites...if not...maybe ill just keep it.

I've counted 7 cars man... now I don't know how old you are, but i'm 32 in Sept. and I have had a truck, which I got at 16. A 93 5.0 Mustang LX an Evo 9 RS (which I would have had longer, but sold it when I had someone I loved riding in a car with a 2 star side impact rating) then my current X. BUT, I didn't put much money into any of the cars... nothing into the mustang actually, the RS, just an Exhaust (Megan) Drop in (works) and LICP (Nisei). My X I have more into, but it's over 2 years old and it's a car I plan on keeping a while.

If you have 20k in mods on your X, expect to MAYBE get 10k out of them.. just a guess, but you usually get half of what you paid new and sometimes not even that. Just try to be satisfied with what you have, you aren't going to find a car with the hp numbers you are pushing new unless you go with a GT-R or a crappy hopped up domestic, which even then you are looking into the 40 or 50k range... and maybe more seeing as your hp numbers are WHP and not crank... plus the AWD. I would take my advice (coming from someone who has had a bit of a problem with being OCD in the past) go to the doctor and get something that will help your compulsion to buy so many cars and so much stuff for each one and then once you get something, just sllllow down your thoughts a little.

Sounds to me like you need to be more financially responsible and figure out your money.

This starts by not selling your Evo and buying another car. Keep it, pay it off. Put your extra money into retirement/savings.

I'm never able to finish reading your posts since your Avatar always sways my eyes away...! But I did read this one entirely.

I think we all sometimes get bored with our cars, especially when we see all the other cool cars out there on the road. I've had quite a few cars but this one seems the most machine-like, which I appreciate. It is a very purpose built car that doesn't make too many compromises. I believe it's hard to argue that in the money/value ratio, the Evo probably stands king.

If I were in your shoes, I would appreciate that 0% financing and enjoy the ride. I'm in Canada, therefore I'm not familiar with current U.S. incentives but I doubt there's a cooler car out there with no charge financing!

You are definitely like me. Had an s2k, custom turbo, for 1 year. Bought STI, had for 8 months, sold for 03 cobra. Sold cobra 6 months later for G35. After 6 more months kept g35 and bought evo IX, sold g35 1 year later after realizing with two 06' motorcycles (gsxr1k and hayabusa) and both cars, I was practically on a noodle diet haha. Traded EVO IX for X.

I don't regret buying the X but my next car I am heading in a different direction that my norm. I will go for a used but latest gen BMW M5 or CTS-V. I will do the usual BPU and wheels and call it a day from there....just sit back and enjoy the ride/luxury/performance.

And I thought I was crazy for trading-in 2 cars in the past 2 years (stock ordinary cars). Turns out some people are way crazier than me LOL. Trading, selling and buying a car on a yearly basis is the worst way of cheating yourself out of your hard-earned money (unless you steal for a living).

If I were you, I'd buy a used Evo8 or S2K, and mod the hell out of it. The X you should have kept stock (like I did, well I'm too cheap to mod it), it really is a great DD.

What surprises me is a lot of evo drivers I know have gone to a NSX. I personally have not driven a NSX on the track but I hear good things from going into an evo to NSX.

...BUT i would like to see for myself!

if you want that raw on the edge feeling, but more power than the S2K, then get the NSX and turbo it. it'll probably be more car than you can handle. no ASC, crap ABS on the older models and TCS will be useless with a non-factory turbo. it'll look exotic, and always retain it's good looks.

the XIII's IX's and X's aren't that pretty cars to look at and the interior is cheap, but they can be made into monster track machines, and you have that already. so maybe you don't need to trade up your X, maybe you need to buy a nice clean NSX for your DD and keep the X for the track and gut it! buy every CF part imaginable. run R compounds and have fun with it whenever you can.
