2010 Side Skirts

Finally got a chance to check out the 2010 GSR SSS yesterday. I have to ask, what is with those hideous gigantic side skirts? Compared to the 2008 It looks the thing has running boards now. Just wondering what the rationale is. If I were in the market for a X I would rule out the 2010 based on the skirts, they are that bad. I've always loathed the aero kit so perhaps it is just me?

Here's a pic from the other thread... and no this isn't the optional aero package side skirts... these are the stock ones.

The reason they did this is because on the 2008-09 models... the lower rear door area was getting demolished on peoples cars from stones being thrown up by the front wheels. So they made the side skirt wider for 2010 to prevent stones from the front wheels from damaging the body of the car just ahead of the rear wheel.

2010 sideskirts are the way to go. I'd like to get my hands on them but not sure about the availability.

Wow i never knew thats why they designed them differently from the 08 model plus they look a lot better. I would love to get my hands on some even though my rear doors have already been beatin by rock chips.

Dude, I already looked into it and they are about $1500 - $2000. It depends on the dealership mark up. I am getting them for my car, my side skirts are trashed. First I got to get a winter beater or my to Vancouver. ;D

they look good, but this plus the seats makes it uncomfortable for people who has never ridden in my car before because i make them clap their feet before getting in lol..

I like the 2010 skirts too.

But anyone know how to stop my kids from stepping on them?

^^^ That would be my primary concern... people stepping on them. I remember trying to sit in a 2008 EVO X with the aero kit side skirts on them. I found it really weird to have to step OVER the side skirts... and then over the side bolster of the seat. With the 2008 stock side skirts... you just get in the car.

Isn't see pretty!

My car the day before I picked it up in April! At first I didnt like the wider side skirts, but after learning about the issues with the 08's paint chip problems and getting used to the look, I wouldn't have my X any other way!

Step on sumthing they really like.. haha. Only thing i can suggest is putting a strip of venture shield along where they step to prevent scratches and scuffs.
