mitsu warranty is garbage

I took my car to the dealer (star mitsubishi in NYC) on 6-24 which I have a 2010 stock gsr with only 3700 miles on it. When i took it to them I had the problem of my third and 5th gear wont going in sometimes. Ok, I left it there hoping to get a diagnoses. They didnt even get to look at it till 7-6 and the service advisor told me my 3rd and 4th gear synchros were gone as well as my clutch was heavily worn. Mind you I never launched or driven my car hard do to being pratically new. They now said corporate has to make a decision. After waiting another week corporate called me today (7-15)saying do to the wear on the clutch my case was void. But If my clutch was badly worn no gears would work not just 3rd and 5th, Every other gear worked except 3rd and 5th WTF I asked them to send me the pics of the clutch and they couldnt do that because its company files now. Now I have to pay for the whole repair.

Heres pics of the clutch and flywheel:

Man I agree with you 100%, to me it seems the company as a whole is failing and they try to screw us every chance they get.

So even with zero mods warranty is not honored? Did they blame your driving style for the clutch wear?

The real crap of it is the worn clutch could signal some real issue inside the transmission, but Mitsu's go-to stance is "abuse," so they ignore it.

Evos have no warranty. If something goes wrong, even if it's defective, the chance of having it fixed under warranty is practically zero.

For example, my seats were coming apart at 5k miles on a completely stock Evo. I took it into the dealer. I got the third degree about abuse to the car. They took pictures of everything, closely inspected the engine bay, accused me of having an aftermarket exhaust (it was still stock!), and checked the tires for signs of wear.

Finally after all that and 2 weeks of waiting, they approve the repair. I was told if any of those checks had not met their satisfaction, they would have denied the claim. On the seats.

I have another story too, but this post's already too long. In short, I started modifying right after that. My warranty's void for no reason at all anyway, I might as well.

Threaten them with arbitration. As long as they get away with ****in over the "little" guy they're gonna keep doing it.

Same thing happened to me. How many miles were on your X when you bought it? Mine had 96miles iirc. There was some scaring on the edge of all four tires, which I pointed out (I got a good price). The car was obviously abused during test drivers or dealer staff fun time, which hotspotted the flywheel, which wore the clutch down early. I never launched, not even once, and I've been driving stick for years.

This was my 5th mitsu purchase (4th new one) in 5 years, so to show their 'loyalty', they did the labor for free and charged me their cost on parts... i guess paying $500 for someone else's damage was better than paying $2000, but even when it was clearly mitsu's fault, they still refused to claim responsibility.

A very good question. My car had 147 miles. I changed the clutch as a part of my modding and it looked fine but I'm sure some of the cars are abused.

How the hell do you wear down a clutch in 3700 miles?

Either that clutch is garbage, you're new to manuals, or you're dropping the clutch at high revs.

From someone who has had several warranty claims honored with my X, Mitsu will warranty most valid claims.

If you have mods on the car when you bring it in, your asking for trouble.

Most of the time what I see are $hitty dealers that don't care...Find another dealer and/or contact mitsu corporate and explain your concerns. Document everything and you will be fine.

Mitsu has been screwed over the years by stupid kids that disconnect their WGA, blow the motor, and or do something else completely stupid then revert to stock to have Mitsu foot the bill. Pure BS, so they are very careful now days....wouldn't you be?

Mitsu will, in most valid cases, honor the warranty. Find a good dealer that's willing to stand by you.

I do not work for Mitsu and I've had my share of issues with them, but they are not as bad as people think.

dealt with them twice now. once on the paint, had to send in arbitration papers and the car was painted two weeks later. Now the most recent, timing chain worn. Been at the dealer since last Friday. Told the dealer Friday to have the Rep call me which come Monday no response. Told the woman at Mitsu doing my claim I wasn't dealing with it just send arbitration papers. Rep wasn't happy the next day when he called and was wanting me to sign off on engine teardown to find out why the chain failed. I refused because it would cost $200 if they found a reason to void and I shouldn't have to pay anything.(warrenty)
Rep Authorized teardown at Mitsu's expense and actually fixed it. All this after 5 differant excuse last Friday why my timing belt failed and why it voided my warrenty. From aftermarket clutch to aftermarket reflask. (Had the clutch but no reflash even thou the insisted I did) Long story short car is still at dealership and I bought a Acura TL yesterday! F Mitsu!!
