When to change trans fluid?

Hello all, just picked up an 08 Evo X gsr from Tennessee and drove it back to NJ. The car came from Texas and I met the owner in Tennessee and then drove the car back to NJ. The car currently has 10,900 miles. My question is, after that drive would it be a good idea to change the trans fluid? The oil I'm already changing, just not sure about the trans fluid and how often it should be changed? Thanks everyone!

I would say change it at 15000 miles following the severe maintenance schedule.

I changed my stock tranny fluid out at 1200 miles because it felt so bad. Transmission feels great with the Redline cocktail now in it. If you don't mind the feel of the shifter with the stock fluid, then every 15-20k miles would be smart. You should do the transfer case and rear differential at the same interval too. My plan is to just do them all annually.

Thanks guys. So I'll probably wait until the 15k mile mark to change along with the transfer case and rear diff as suggested. The shifter actually feels very good right now, the car has the TWM short shifter + base bushings in it and shifts great. Any suggestions for a specific product to use? Thanks again.

Redline in the tranny (2xMTL 1xMT90) and OEM Mitsu Diaqueen 90W LSD in transfer case and rear differential. The rear differential also calls for a drain/fill of Mitsu's ATF fluid so there are actually two things to drain/fill in the rear.

ASAP. I changed mine out at 15k, and like many others, it was pretty foul. I could see metal shavings throughout the oil (the drain pan looked a little glittery), and the magnetic drain plug had large filings and a thick layer of sludge on it.

If I could do it over again, there's no way I'd wait until 15k. Here, have a scary picture. I refilled with the Redline cocktail, but didn't notice a significant improvement. Maybe I should have used 1.6 MTL + 1 MT-90 instead of 2 MTL + 0.6 MT-90.

Also, to do the ATF portion of the diff, you need Mitsubishi's diagnostic MUT tool to do it properly. Probably worth a dealer visit for that one.

@ the picture! Thanks for all the great advice guys. I'll be paying Mitsu a visit. I'm very new to the car, so much appreciated everyone!

I would go with the mix that Kracka suggested, I used it and the tranny feels way better and shifting is much smoother. I will be putting the base bushings on this coming week then a SS to complete it.

MT-90 75W90 GL-4 Gear Oil

Or early, even. I did mine at the factory recommended "Extreme Conditions" interval at 15k. If you follow the normal use recommendation you'll wait until 30k.

Both of those are too long, IMO.

i changed my stock fluid on my IX at the first 1K,,, keep in mind that those components are breaking in and your magnet plug will be packed with metal particles,,,, i personally want fresh fluid in her every 5K,,, but at 5K that is way overkilled specially with a good synthetic you can get away with 30K plus, remember it also all depends on you driving style how much power you are running ect...
