If I get stationed in Japan, and my car needs warranty work done, can the dealerships there work on it? Maybe some military peeps can chime on on this matter.
You might want to check and see if they have an auto mall type detachement. For instance, in Guantanamo, you can buy cars there and also get them serviced all on base. But, that could be because they dont allow people off base there so you would have to have something like that but I would guess they have something like that in Japan, especially with a Mitsu.
When i was stationed in Germany, I had an Audi. I didnt have any issues getting it worked on there. Cost is of course based on that country ecomony. I know it not Japan, but dont see an issue. I have a Soldier that was with me at FT Campbell that is now stationed in Japan, she says alot of Japannese dont like us. (Wonder why). But i would take it.
. IF you pulled a magic rabbit out of your hat and somehow get to bring it (i highly doubt it unless ur sneaking it in on a C-5) I highly doubt they'd work on it. We had a bimmer while stationed in England and got all our service done over there with no problems but we also bought the car over there so.......
I work for the Army (in transportation and handle POV shipment) and you can bring your POV here but let me tell you, the Japanese dealers WILL NOT touch a car that was not purchased from within Japan. This even includes GM, Ford, & Chrysler....
Used EVOs here are much cheaper than the US, you should sell yours and just pickup one here in Japan.

I can maybe see there being a problem with a dealership trying to get reimbursed for warranty repair expenses from MMNA. But if you're paying out-of-pocket for a repair or something, it's just stupid for them not to at least try to work on the car, if at all possible.
I mean, hell, the USDM Evo was manufactured and assembled in Japan.. and I'm pretty sure there's more parts that are interchangeable between the USDM and JDM models, than not.
Maybe if you're sporting a ton of ARC parts and wearing a "JDM *****" t-shirt they'll change their tune.. or get a good chuckle, lol.
I'm Air Force and we can't take ANY cars to Japan. I'm pretty sure the laws in Japan won't let you import a car into the country. You can export all you want though, so go over, get a Skyline and bring it back

This is far from the truth export laws are strict. Bringing a skyline among other cars is not going to happen due to American law, and the fact that the main exporter/importer was changing vins to get the R32 (or whatever the latest one is) into the states when they were banned. Now you can't bring any skyline. There are very few Japanese spec cars that you can still bring back, i had to sell my rx7 jut recently.
Motorex is out of business? Dang, that sux. They used to be the registered importer you'd use to get one back. We had a guy at Hill AFB with a blue skyline and he used them. So theres nobody you can use to bring one back?
You need to read the Motorex story first, it had nothing to do with changing vins. He was greedy and taking people's money without converting them for street legal use. A lot of older Skylines that make it to the states come from Canada because of their 15 year rule.
To the OP. Call the different dealerships. It's somewhat like here in the states. A lot of dealers don't deal with a USDM car because your American, but some will.

To the OP. They should help you. The japanese are really nice, level headed people, and the car was manu'd in japan. I don't have facts in writing on that, just my opinion.
