I have done it before too, but its back in now since I took a long trip. I like the weight savings, especially in the heavy X.

I've had 2 flats that necessitated using the donut spare in 21 years of driving.

My front tire had a hole in it since day 1, just use a cigarette lighter pump and some sealant and it will last a while until you can get it fixed plus it weighs only like a pound.

I've done it before on my old car (03 blazer xtreme). I took it out because I put a system in.

Never ran into problems, but always had a feeling in the back of my head. I did throw the spare in when I went out of town though.

I run with mine removed as well. However I live in a small town so it's not like I can really be stranded anywhere. Always goes back in for trips though.

I pulled out the spare, jack, wood and my subwoofer, but I don't DD mine.
The weight savings was pretty noticeable, and as a side benefit, the trunk becomes functional.

I do keep a can of fix-a-flat velcroed to the trunk, just in case there are no road services available.

What's the car feel like with 70 pounds less weight in the trunk?

Like a car with a full tank vs an empty tank. Fuel is ~6-7lbs/gal.

in the US, we get Mitsubishi roadside assistance (aka AAA). This will only take you as far as the nearest dealer, however.

I have everything removed from trunk, beside the bottom carpet piece and a little basket for some of my "car stuff" thats tied to my strut bar so the basket doesn't fly around when im cutting corners =)

And CAA free tow if i get a flat ftw!

anyone with aftermarket wheels probably can't safely use the spare anyway. if you run 265 35 18 tires, the diameter is different enough that using the spare could seriously damage your trabsmission. i don't have a spare when my wider summer tires are on. the extra trunk space is nice!
