My spare and tools have been gone for a long time. I pay for roadside assistance and have the Mitsu roadside for the next year so I don't mind.

Just carry a can or two of fix-a-flat and have roadside assistance.

I have no idea what this means.

I merely asked because whenever I put anything in my trunk, like grocery's or my laptop bag, I have to reassemble everything. It is a total mess back there and for a moment I considered taking everything out.

I am considering to take the spare out and just rely on AAA from here on out.

for those who have fix a flat and think that will solve the problem you're wrong. my tpms went out on my 09 RA and i initially thought it was a flat tire. this was during the huge snow storms in the mid atlantic so i couldn't take it to the dealer for a week or two.

fix a flat ABSOLUTELY KILLS your wheel balance!!! you will NOT be able to go over 30-40 mph without the steering wheel shaking like crazy.

but it will get you where you need to go and no longer be stuck on the side of the road. fix a flat is not a permanent fix for a flat, its just suppose to get you home or where you can get a tire.

i drove around with 2 cans of fix a flat for 2 years. never had to use it and never worried about it. if i was going on long trips (50 miles or more) id just throw the spare and jack in the back. definately dont need it around town or on a friday night. i have AAA too though and a real good friend with a towing company that has 6 flat beds, lol.

Just adding to that above me: how fast do you really think you can go safely on the spare that is provided in your trunk. That is what is lovingly called a "doughnut" and although you will often find them on cars in the walmart parking lot, they are made to get you from where you are to the closest tire shop. AAA can do the same thing for me unless I am in one of those few places in the country that doesn't have cell service.

I took mine out of my VIII and replaced it with stereo equipment for the whole time I had it. I just had two big cans of fix-a-flat in the car and those could get me to a tire shop easily if I ever got a flat. Plus my insurance comes with free roadside repair for things like that.

I've used the fix a flat and drove 65+mph for over three hours. Not saying this is the best idea but it can be done and I didn't have ANY wheel shake and the tire didn't leak any air.

mrscott that depends on how serious the damage to the tire is and how many cans you put in. I think if it's just a needle hole, and you use 1/2 of one can and it does the job - you're fine. my situation was I had to put almost 2-3 cans in to get the tpms sealed.

Also, fix a flat is only good for minor damage, not a complete shredding of the tire.

also: I'm just curious, if you take out the spare from the evo X, there's nothing to support that plywood cover in the back. If you take the carpet and plywood out, what do you do to cover up the back from scratches?

I believe there is a kit with Styrofoam supports? If not something like that could be made pretty easy.
