Ever lose interest in performance cars...
I thought I was done but it was more of a mini vacation from performance cars for about a year. I bought A Lexus (susp/wheels/kit), and the itch didn't go away. I then built a car on the side, and dailyed the Lexus. That still wasn't enough, and I ended up getting rid of it for an Evo. I have one daughter, and a second baby on the way, I figure, if I want to step away from performance cars, I'll just drive the wife's car.
For me it kinda worked out the opposite way. I was never really into performance cars until I saw the X. Sure my dad had a '71 Mach I Mustang that we used to tinker with when I was a kid but after he sold it my interest went with it. I've always liked cars, import or domestic, but nothing grabbed my attention and made me say "I have to have it" until the Evo X. I guess I got into the scene a little late and like the OP most of my planned mods are now going towards other things and the X sits in the garage for weeks at a time. I still love it however and will mod it to its full capability but it's going to take time to get there.
you're confusing two issues, namely:
1- lack of interest in sports cars
2- lack of time to act on said interest.
you're still interested in the car, but since you are short on time, any money spent making the car more sport seems to have little/no return since you are unable to find time to enjoy it.
believe me, I know how this goes. I'm relatively new to being married and home ownership as well (no kids thank Jeebus), but giving the necessary attention to your wife and house (did I mention my house is 143 years old?) can greatly detract from garage/car/track time & budget.
not to scare anyone from marriage or home ownership... they're 110% worth it. you just have to find a way to carve out some time for your personal pursuits, and if you are able to do so, they become that much more rewarding.

Yep,
Thought I'd drive something more age appropriate, I bought a 07 lexus IS350. I hated it!
Sure it ran a 13.2 @ 104 stock, but I really hated not being able to tune it or do anything to it really. It had no personality and not a single person complimented the car.
I sold it after 11 months, took a bath on it, then drove my beater for 8 months patiently waiting for the Evo X to be released.
In Feb 08 I drove 600 miles to pick up my X and never looked back. 40k miles later and my Green turbo should be here tommorrow

Yes I just sold my evo. I bought a used Avalon and am quite happy with the decision. Roomeier, quieter, better on gas etc... Someday I might get another sports car but I'm pretty sure it will be an auto.
That's why I bought an MR. I still love performance cars but these days I just don't have the time and money to be playing with cars. My MR is a great daily driver that keeps me from losing touch with where I came from.
Yes, I sold my Evo VIII two years ago when I realized that I wasn't using it very much. My wife hated the harsh ride and I needed to haul stuff on a frequent basis. I have a Nissan Pathfinder, a Honda Element, and a BMW 328i to handle my daily driving needs, and I appreciate them for what they are.
But something is missing. I no longer have a car that I am passionate about, the way I was with my Evo. I want a car that I can drive for just the pure joy of driving. It doesn't have to be very fast, but it has to have that almost indescribable characteristic of being a driver's car. I don't mod my vehicles or take them to the track, and status/luxury doesn't motivate me. I often wonder what my next car will be and whether I'll go pure performance again (Evo, STI) or back off a notch or two but still get driving satisfaction (Miata, GTI).
The point is that I think about it nearly every day and long for overall rightness that a performance car such as the Evo can provide.

I left the EVO community not to long ago and not by choice! I do not miss the car one bit... I purchased an 87 Starion and I'm currently rebuilding that from the ground up. However I just bought a vehicle that would drive thru anything or over anything lol. I don't mind it's an automatic because the vehicles just as much fun if not more fun than the EVO. I bought a true rally legend, a 2001 Montero XLS 3.5 v6 4x4. It's won the Darkar on 12 separate occasions, more than any other manufacturer. This has got to be the nicest vehicle I've ever drove and or operated. The EVO i've yet to miss.
