I have a theory on why everyone tries to race Evo 8 and 9, but not X. the tenth gen lancer looks very similar to the evos and people probably think you have the base lancer. for the other generations there was a huge difference in styling between the Evos and Lancers and in my opinion i think X don't look as "race car" as 8+9 with many exceptions of course(Norman Gates, etc.)

Yeah...I get a lot of people trying to race me. My car is fully debadged, so a lot of them have no idea what it is. I usually just give them a little listen to the open dump and they back off.

I have had a few M3's do that on open interstate stretches. Nothing racing, just a bit of speed. and brakes.
well said brother, well said.

Alot of times its more of a play around thing with other evos as well. Most of the evos in my area are on this forum page and we may not know eachother like brothers but we know of eachother. This playing around isnt some die hard fast and the furious bs, just playing around.

Im 24yrs old and i have never had anyone try and race me.
The way everyone goes on about street racing when i got here i expected it to be on every intersection.
It doesnt matter what the car evo, range rover sports, bikes or the mrs M6 (non of which are close to stock).
Is Cali different to other states or maybe i should go and buy what you call a domestic?

You get used to it after a while, at least around NWA all the evo and sti owners just wave or nod heads to each other and dont bother "racing". Though what I deal with is all the frat boys or rednecks wanting to race me in their pretty little mustands/SUVs or Pick ups. I take up on their offers every now and then, and when I do.. I dont just gun it and get past em once, after i do get past em I slow down, wait till they catch up and gun it again, i do this till they are going the speed limit. I honestly dont give a rats a** if a cop is gonna pull me over or not, because I am usually in a pissed off and/or I am going to rape you mood.

HA!!! I live in redneck town, so everyone in their jacked up trucks revs up real quick when they go past me... do they even know what an Evo is? I mean if you're in a Supra, MAYBE an Sti who's tranny isn't going to break or something like that then ok.... but a jacked up 95 F150? Get that ford and chevy crap outta here!!! lol

How slow is that? The (street) speed limit around here is 35MPH and it's attainable in first gear.

Just so you know the STi uses a T56, the same tremec made tranny found in Vipers, Corvettes, Trans ams, Camaros, some Aston Martins, Terminator Cobras, etc. They DONT break, the only reason I didn't get the Evo in the first place was because of the suck *** trannys in them, but it will be cheaper to just get a shep tranny/transcase, then a built engine and all the mods in an STi to make it fast. But no, T56s do not break very easily, if at all. I'm talking 600whp/600wtq without a problem. Do some reasearch first

Just going by what i've read in the past that Subaru's weak point is the tranny, maybe it's true, maybe not... don't care though, as I have no desire to own one.

I doubt that
and the guy you quoted was saying the sti transmission was good.....
and the transmission in the evo is fine as long as your not drag racing all the time

thats that only thing the STI is good for is a strong transmission
spins bearings like no tomorrow though

well like I said, i'm not going to argue about it because I don't care enough about the STI. I like the look of the new ones, but that's about as much that I would say about them. I don't like them enough to buy one, I know they are nice cars, but a bit to expensive for me anyway.

I actually have a guy that lives in my town that has an old civic... it looks like total crap, all it has is an exhaust and no grill (I guess to get more cold air to all that power) .... some people just don't understand. He asked me one day if I wanted to run and I just said... " Come on man, are you serious? do you want me to keep it in second so you have a change on the top end?" lol
