Thanks everyone, mixed opinion, mostly 5MT.... the SST would be more convenient FOR SURE...but, learning and living with a manual will open up all the sports cars options in future for me..

Also i been reading scary stories about the SSH failing or overheating due to parts modifying...so how does the transmission handle the extra power if i plan to do bolts ons and tuning, i will probably stay with the stock turbo?

manual bro... nothing like banging through gears at whatever revs you want and listening to the exhaust screaming

Seriously the SST is not that bad just requires some careful planning and maintenance get SST Oil Cooler if you plan to do extensive mods and pick up some SSP clutch packs and be done with it unless your intentions are of having a 600awhp+ Evo X just get the SST it will be convenient and it's still involving as far as the driving experience goes.

I recommend going for the 5 speed .I have owned my sst for 6 mths and I hate it, it already over-revved a couple times and showed the trans overheating thing (just using sport mode)
and I want to change the turbo and injectors and exhaust + power tune and can't do any of it until I spend around $5k on the stupid tranny !!! don't get it unless ur not gonna modify at all !

I say manual because a more spirited feel, but then again, I have not driven a SST. The 5MT is fun, but definately not in traffic.

I recently bought an Evo X GSR which of course has MT.
This was my first MT car I have ever owned out of 5 cars over the years.
To prepare for the purchase beforehand, I took 2 days of manual transmission drivers training from a local driving school. On both days, the sessions lasted 2 hours each. And during those sessions, I basically abused this Toyota Yaris' transmission. The first day was kinda brutal - took me a little while before I could get the little car in first gear without stalling. It was embarrassing (good thing it was in a parking lot for the first day haha). But after the 2nd day I got the basic feel for driving MT. It took much longer for me to get better over all, but getting the basics down isn't hard.

Traffic - it is a pain to drive MT while in traffic, but thats a small price to pay for the fun you'll have driving MT.

So don't be afraid to get an Evo with MT. I would suggest that you take lessons or use a cheap car you dont care about - to practice on first.

With the mindset in here, I guess everyone driving a 458 or a GTR is a limp-wristed Mary as well?

Unreal.

That's smart. More folks should follow your example.

if you don't have any experience with a MT, don't do it. All u'll do is kill it.

^ +1, last thing you want is a car you just got that needs a clutch replacement.. its a hassle.. I would try to find a friend or someone whos willing to teach you at least the basics of driving manual (its not hard), keep in mind AWD is slightly different than driving 2WD. Good luck! Let us know how it is.
