Yup its california.. I had the chance to go back and that was one of the factors as well as others.

Florida will only mess with you if your doing something stupid. I got pulled over near orlando for speeding and cop said he could have gave me so much more for tinted, exhaust etc.. but said he really likes the car and let me go on a warning.

wrong.

you forgot the HID-compliant refraction housings before projectors became more widely used. for example, the is300 has factory HID, but it's a directional refraction housing. specifically, the lower half of the usual spherical reflector is flat, to minimize glare.

+1

Older gen G35/Maximas also come to mind...although I could picture a cop pulling someone over and writing a ticket for stock reflector HID's and not knowing any better.

On a side note, here in Florida I work with a bunch of cops and one of them has some illegal HID's in his car FTW. Shows how much that law is enforced in FL.

I have been pulled over twice. Once by CHP and once by a Sheriff. Both times was let go. Thats why I keep my car bone stock looking on the outside other than my cat back. But it is annoying always wondering if today is the day.

whats yuba? I don't wtf that is but I test pipe it all day woot at least 5 times a day boving too and nothing even get tailed by cops on the freeway smelling my fuels. single rice canister on my x. cops i think like panda evos not red or black ones just white ones. put your stock cat on take it to a ref and have him sign it off? or get your HKS tested for its dp and send it. you can pay bail for you exhaust and do neither its going to be around 180 if you don't want to be tested and your factory HID should be dismissed by the ref tell him there factory

Just a tad extreme there... just a tad.

I know this might be crazy to say but, California currently is nothing like 1930's Germany, whatsoever. I know, crazy. I guess if you don't agree, read some history books.

The key to have a modded car with good power in California is this recipe:

412 whp / 400 wtq on a Mustang dyno. Mod it wisely with stealth in mind and you can make whatever power you like.

these guys are blowing it way out of proportion. Either they are driving like numbskulls or have a ton of aftermarket bling hanging off the car in all places.

I've lived in both Socal and Norcal and if you are smart about it you will be ok.

Lived in Socal for 12 years and Norcal for 12 years so far. So 24 years total so far in California and every single one of my cars have run no cat and other mods.

No front plates are illegal here too. I've never run one and I've been maybe popped 2x for it.

Fight it. If it's below the ca decibel standard, let the state ref evaluate it. If it's legit, they'll give u a certificate that says you are a okay best of luck. Cheers

Here here ^^. I did the stealth airbox mod, had my exhaust powder coated a dull grey and welded a cat heat shield to a test pipe. Total stealth. I still rock the wing and have been pulled over twice only for tinted windows which I've since taken off and have never been hassled about my exhaust or any other mods. This is over a 22 year period I've been driving modified cars is Norcal.

I find it strange when people do stuff they know is illegal but are still willing to flaunt it and are surprised when they are busted. This is in no way directed at the OP just a general comment. I call bull**** on the HID thing. Change back to stock exhaust, get it written off then put it back on.
